  • Publication number: 20200059882
Abstract: According to the invention a core network management device in a core network section (CN) of the wireless network (WN) receives a request for a tracing regarding a wireless terminal. The request includes an address of a destination device that is to receive trace log data or data enabling the locating of the address. The core network management device then automatically orders, based on the request, network elements of an access network section (AN) of the wireless network (WN) to perform tracing regarding the wireless terminal and ensures that the trace log data is sent to the destination trace log data handling device. The request with the address may be sent from an access network management device in the access network section (AN).

  • Patent number: 9848368
Abstract: A method in a first network node for handling traffic tracing of a user equipment. The first network node is comprised in a first Radio Access Technology, RAT, system. The first network node starts a handover procedure to handover the user equipment from the first RAT system to a second RAT system. The user equipment has an active traffic tracing ongoing in the first RAT system. The traffic tracing relates to tracing associated with communication between the user equipment and the first RAT system. The first network node sends a message to a second network node in the second RAT system. The message is sent directly to the second network node or via one or more intermediate network nodes. The message comprises one or more parameters relating to the ongoing traffic tracing of the user equipment. The parameters define when the traffic tracing is to continue in the second RAT system.

  • Patent number: 9739867
Abstract: A method enables automatic determination that an area covered by an Access Point (AP) of a Wi-Fi Radio Access Network (RAN) overlaps with a cell of a 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) RAN. The method comprises, at an entity of the Wi-Fi RAN, obtaining a 3GPP identifier related to a user terminal that is attached to the Wi-Fi RAN and an identifier for an AP of the Wi-Fi RAN to which the terminal is attached. The method further comprises, at the entity, generating and sending a Location Service Request including the 3GPP identifier to a Location Services (LCS) Server associated with the 3GPP RAN, receiving a Location Service Response from the LCS Server that includes information identifying a cell of the 3GPP RAN in which the user terminal is located, and causing storage of an association between the identified Wi-Fi AP and the identified 3GPP cell.

  • Patent number: 9681334
Abstract: According to a first aspect there is provided a method of enabling load steering between a 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Radio Access Network (RAN) and a Wi-Fi RAN. The method comprises, at a server, generating overlap information associating one or more cells of the 3GPP RAN with one or more Access Points (AP) of the Wi-Fi RAN, wherein a cell of the 3GPP RAN is associated with an AP of the Wi-Fi RAN if it is determined that the cell overlaps with an area covered by the AP. The server then determines an off-load schedule for a cell of the 3GPP RAN, the off-load schedule indicating when an overlapping AP of the Wi-Fi RAN can reject an attempt by a user terminal to attach to the AP of the Wi-Fi RAN, and sends the off-load schedule to the Wi-Fi RAN.

  • Patent number: 9526034
Abstract: The present invention provides a device and a method for logging information. The device implementing the invention is operable to attach to a first node and a second node, at least one of the first node and the second node operates within a WLAN and the other of the first node and the second node operates within a WLAN or a 3rd Generation Partnership Project, 3GPP, network. The device includes a memory and a processor. The memory includes a log, the log configured to receive at least one entry comprising an identifier for the first node and a time stamp indicating the time that the device attached to the first node. • Patent number: 9407520
Abstract: A method and cell controlling node providing radio communication in a first cell of a communication network, for supporting management of the communication network based on performance related reports sent to a management system. Signal measurement reports are obtained from User Equipments being served by the first cell controlling node, on measurements on signals from cell controlling nodes in neighboring cells. Based on the measurement reports, the cell controlling node identifies a neighboring cell from which signals fulfill a signal condition. A current identity of the identified neighboring cell is then selected as a cell cluster identity, in order to send performance related reports to the management system indicating the cell cluster identity. Cell cluster identity can be shared by cells forming a cell cluster of a specific area, and performance related reports can be more uniform regardless of which cell controlling nodes they are received from.

  • Publication number: 20150365875
Abstract: A method and apparatus for selecting a radio access network cell for connecting to a communications network. A client device that is connected to a Wi-Fi access network cell sends a request message to a node in the Wi-Fi access network cell. It receives a response from the node that includes information identifying at least one overlapping radio access network cell and a property of the overlapping radio access network cell. On the basis of a comparison between the property of the radio access network cell and a corresponding property of the Wi-Fi access network cell, the node determines whether to remain connected to the Wi-Fi access network cell or to move to the radio access network cell. This has the advantage that a client device that is already associated with a Wi-Fi AP can determine if another access network cell could provide it with a better service, for example if the conditions of the AP change dynamically.

  • Publication number: 20150365864
Abstract: A method and node for determining whether to allow access of a mobile terminal to a WiFi access network cell is provided. The node determines a property of the WiFi access network and determines a corresponding property of a further radio access network, such as a 3GPP radio access network. On the basis of the WiFi property and the corresponding further radio access network property, the node determines whether to allow access of the mobile terminal to the WiFi access network cell. This ensures that the mobile terminal can connect to an access network that is best able to serve it. In one embodiment the node is located in the further radio access network and thus receives the WiFi property from the WiFi access network cell to make a decision. The node may be an eNodeB, a RNC or a home base station. In another embodiment the node is located in the WiFi access network and thus receives the further radio access network property from the further radio access network to make a decision.
