  • Patent number: 9358336
Abstract: Drug delivery device with electronically controlled and axially displaceable piston drive member (10) adapted to engage a loaded cartridge piston. The piston drive member is moveable between a proximal loading position in which a cartridge can be received and a distal loaded position in engagement with the piston. A proximity sensor (11,12) provides a varying output indicative of a varying distance between the piston drive member and the piston. A controller (30) coupled to the proximity sensor is configured to control movement of the piston drive member from the loading position to the loaded position and stop movement when the controller based on input from the proximity sensor system determines that the loaded position has just been reached. By this arrangement it is prevented that a drug-filled cartridge is pressurized during the loading and initializing procedure.
