  • Patent number: 10034670
Abstract: A detachment mechanism for an introducer assembly is designed to hold a coupling element of an implantable medical device until its desired release within a patient's vessel. The detachment mechanism includes a body portion having first and second gripper arm elements which grip onto the coupling element of the medical device. The gripper arms are naturally biased into a closed position by means of resiliency of the body element. For this purpose, an actuating device or opening element is provided which includes an enlarged head which can be pulled against tapering internal surface of the body portion of the detachment mechanism in order to force the gripper arms open, thereby to release the medical device from the introducer assembly. The detachment mechanism, being naturally in the closed configuration, reliably holds a medical device to the introducer assembly until it is desired to release the latter into the patient's vessel.

  • Publication number: 20160278843
Abstract: A medical ablation system includes an elongate element to be inserted endoluminally into a patient's vessel and includes at its distal end a pre-heating element and an ablation element. The system provides pre-heating of, for example, blood to a first threshold temperature above body temperature but below ablation temperature; and then a second heating stage provided by the ablation element. Pre-heating reduces the amount of energy required to effect ablation, resulting in more focussed embolization with a higher proportion of energy delivered to the area in a more controlled manner. The arrangement can reduce the amount of damage to surrounding tissues and organs.

  • Publication number: 20110022075
Abstract: To prevent a small diameter catheter 10 of soft material from collapsing when being used to aspirate a blood clot 25, the lumen 16 of the catheter contains a longitudinal member 26 having radially-extending fin elements 33. The longitudinal member may itself be a catheter having a lumen 22 through which passes a wire 27 having at its distal end an expandable basket 28 for retrieving the clot.

  • Publication number: 20100292726
Abstract: A thrombus retrieval device has one or more thrombus engaging elements that are movable between a retracted configuration in which they are stowed within the device and a deployed configuration in which they project from the device to snare an adjacent thrombus for removal from a blood vessel.

  • Publication number: 20040115068
Abstract: The invention relates to membrane pumps for delivering liquids. More specifically, a pump is provided having a pump housing with a pump cavity formed between first and second wall portions thereof, and an pump membrane pump membrane having first and second membrane surfaces arranged within the pump cavity, whereby a pump chamber is provided between the first wall portion and the first membrane surface, and an actuation chamber is provided between the second wall and the second membrane surface. Inlet means comprising an inlet valve in fluid communication with the pump chamber, and outlet means comprising an outlet valve in fluid communication with the pump chamber are provided. The pump membrane has a maximum volume position, and a drained volume position in which the first membrane surface in a stretched state abuts the first wall.

  • Publication number: 20040116905
Abstract: The present invention relates to flow restrictors suitable for the controlled transfer of fluid from a first compartment to a second compartment. More specifically, the invention relates to a safety arrangement reducing the risks associated with diminished flow resistance through the flow restrictor. In a first aspect the present invention provides a flow restrictor comprising a flow-restricting channel formed between at least a first member and a second member arranged in contact with each other, the flow channel being arranged to form at least one generally U-formed portion with a pair of opposed first and second channel portions, and with a safety channel arranged between the opposed first and second channel portions. The safety channel provides a fluid communication with an exterior space relative to the flow restrictor.
