  • Patent number: 8281868
Abstract: A well drilling tool has a tubular member connected into a casing string that serves as a drill string. A load shoulder is located within the bore of the tubular member. The load shoulder has a torque transferring portion that extends from a lower terminus to an upper terminus. The load shoulder has an axial force transferring portion that faces upward. A bottom hole assembly is lowered through the casing string and lands on the load shoulder. The bottom hole assembly has a mating profile to the load shoulder so that it will be supported by the load shoulder and will receive torque transferred from the load shoulder.

  • Patent number: 8225864
Abstract: Centralizer includes a body formed of a first material and an outer shell formed of a second material. The outer shell is installed to resist destructive damage and longitudinal creep of the portion formed of the first material. The outer shell covers the entire exterior surface of the body, including ribs that protrude from the exterior surface. The outer shell material is more durable than the material of the body. The outer shell material may be steel and the body material may be a polymer. The ribs and exterior surface of the body bond to the outer shell. The centralizers fit on well pipes to centralize them within boreholes.

  • Patent number: 8037932
Abstract: A pipe handling assembly includes a pipe engaging apparatus having a pipe gripping mechanism connectable to a top drive such that the top drive transmits rotational movement and axial movement to the pipe gripping mechanism. A pipe handling device is mounted onto the pipe engaging apparatus, the pipe handling device including a link hanger mounted on the pipe engaging apparatus. A link arm has a first end pivotally connectable to the link hanger and an outboard end selected to carry a pipe into a position to be gripped by the pipe engaging apparatus. A bearing isolates rotational movement to the pipe gripping mechanism from the link hanger. A connection rigidly connects the link hanger to the pipe engaging apparatus during operation of the pipe handling assembly. The connection is selected to substantially prevent the link hanger from rotating with the pipe gripping mechanism should the bearing seize.

  • Patent number: 7784551
Abstract: A device for handling well pipe includes a mandrel including an upper end, a lower end and a long axis extending between through the upper end and the lower end. The mandrel secures to a top drive of a drilling rig. A threaded collar is located on an outer surface of the mandrel to loosely engage threads of a well pipe. An annular force generating assembly is carried on the mandrel and positioned between the upper end and the threaded collar. The force generating assembly applies a load to an upper end of the well pipe along the long axis, enabling torque to be transmitted between the threaded collar and the well pipe. • Patent number: 7757764
Abstract: A cement float collar can be positioned downhole and used in a wellbore completion operation after drilling a wellbore with casing. The cement float collar is made for pumping downhole and into engagement with a groove formed in the casing, called the profile nipple. As such, no restriction is needed in the casing for accepting or latching the float collar and the portion of casing including the groove can be installed at the start of the drilling operation. In addition, the profile nipple can be used to engage other drilling tools and, therefore, can already be in placed when the final well depth (TD) is reached.
