  • Patent number: 6015937
Abstract: An anchoring screw (1) is disclosed for implantation in bone, consisting of a tissue compatible material for supporting prostheses, artificial joint components, or the like. The anchoring screw (1) has at least one slot (5, 5a) extending from its threaded outer surface at a distance from the insertion end (3). The slot (5, 5a) is arranged to receive a blanking element (6, 6a) which shields the slot (5, 5a) during the application of the anchoring screw (1) and its integration in a recess prepared beforehand in the bone during a healing stage. The blanking element (6, 6a) is replaced, after integration of the anchoring screw (1) with the bone, by a holder for a prosthesis, the holder including a web portion insertable into said slot. There is also disclosed an anchoring arrangement comprising at least one such anchoring screw and such a holder or coupling, and a method for application of such an anchoring arrangement in osseous tissue.

  • Patent number: 5735898
Abstract: A method for supporting a prosthesis or part thereof on bone tissue utilizes an anchoring element (1) that is substantially rotationally symmetrical and is provided with external threads (20) and a central bore (2). At least one slit (3, 4, 5, 6) is arranged in spiral form around the longitudinal axis (13) of the element (1), extending through and over at least the major part (11, 12) of the outer wall of the element to communicate with the central bore. The major part is provided with external threads (20), and the spirality of the slits (3, 4, 5, 6) is the same as that of the outer threads (20). After drilling a hole to completion in bone tissue, an inner end portion of element (1) is forced into the hole while rotating element (1) and utilizing the external threads to cut complementary internal threads in the bone tissue. The prostheses or parts thereof are then secured to the outer end portion of element (1).

  • Patent number: 5702443
Abstract: An anchoring element for implantation in bone or other tissue takes the form of an externally threaded screw, for example of titanium or other tissue compatible material. Such an anchoring element may be used, for example for holding prostheses or artificial joint components. To increase its rotational stability and prevent the element from becoming unscrewed, the threads of the screw are provided with notches, for example by forming spiral or straight grooves in the peripheral threaded surface of the element, which grooves intersect the thread turns to form these notches. After such an anchoring element has been implanted in bone tissue for example, the tissue draws into the notches to provide keys preventing rotation and unscrewing of the anchoring element.

  • Patent number: 5564926
Abstract: An anchoring element for implantation into first and second aligned bores of different diameters provided in bone tissue of two bones or two portions of a bone separated by a non-ossified tissue. A prosthesis is supported on the proximal end of the anchoring element. A first cylindrical portion is located at the distal end of the anchoring element and has a first external thread and an outer diameter corresponding to a diameter of the first bore. A second cylindrical portion is located at the proximal end of the anchoring element. The second cylindrical portion includes a second external thread and has an outer diameter corresponding to a diameter of the second bore. The first and second external threads have an equal pitch.

  • Patent number: 5562670
Abstract: A device for implanting in osseous tissue, for example in the skull of a patient, for electric transmission of signals to the inner ear, includes a rotationally symmetric body (1) of titanium or other tissue compatible material with an insertion end (2) for insertion into a bore prepared in osseous tissue beforehand and an application end (3) intended to remain external to the patient. A central through bore (4) connects both ends (2,3) of the body. An external screw thread (7) is provided adjacent the insertion end. An insulating element (9) is arranged in the bore and carries one or more terminal elements or contacts (12) connected with insulating electrical conductors (8). The conductors (8) extend from the contacts (12) through the axial bore at the insertion end or through openings in the peripheral wall surface of the body (1).

  • Patent number: 5554027
Abstract: A prosthesis system for replacing two or more adjacent teeth comprises prefabricated elements for fixing to the lower or upper jaw of a patient. The prefabricated elements include an arcuate bridge base, two or more substantially rotationally symmetric spacer elements, and, for each spacer element, a respective fixture or screw implantable in the jawbone. The system further includes an arcuate dental bridge comprising teeth, and an arcuate profile element supporting the teeth. On its underside the profile element has a groove or channel to receive the bridge base. Each implantable fixture or screw has a screw-threaded bore extending from its outer end for reception of a corresponding screw-threaded shank at one end of the respective spacer element. The bridge base has bores therein to receive fitting portions of the spacer elements and the bridge base is secured to the spacer elements by adhesive and/or by securing screws or nuts.
