  • Method and arrangement for channel allocation in a radio communications system

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and an arrangement for channel allocation in a radio communication system in which data is transmitted between two stations over two or more radio channels. Data is communicated as packets which are divided into blocks while the transmission follows a protocol for automatic re-transmission of data that have been erroneously transmitted. In accordance with the proposed method, channels for re-transmission are allocated with respect to a transmission parameter which has been created at a previous transmission and which is based upon information of the result of said previous transmission. The transmission parameter is aimed to ensure that re-transmission is performed via those channels which have the highest probability of transmitting data correctly. The channels which had the highest transmission quality in said previous transmission are expected to have the highest transmission quality also by re-transmission.

Additional communication is selectively permitted in the communication system through operation of the circuitry. Levels of communication quality of ongoing communication in the communication system are determined. When a request is made to admit additional communication, the additional communication is admitted only when the level of communication quality is better than a selected threshold.

    Abstract: A method and system for measuring signal level in a telecommunications system having a mobile assisted handoff (MAHO) feature. The method and system utilizes the MAHO feature to perform signal level measurements, at a mobile station, on channels other than handoff measurement channels on which signal level is measured for MAHO purposes. Use of the method and system reduces the effects of making additional measurements on the efficiency of the MAHO process. A system operator may obtain signal level measurements for various purposes other than MAHO without adversely effecting the MAHO process.
