Abstract: The present invention relates to a wave energy converter, comprising: a buoyant wave collector adapted to float in the surface of water, wherein the wave collector has a leading edge and a trailing edge; a platform adapted to be submerged and positioned lower than the wave collector, wherein the wave collector is adapted to move relative to the platform; an extendable and retractable front attachment connecting a leading portion of the wave collector to the platform; and an extendable and retractable rear attachment connecting a trailing portion of the wave collector to the platform. In at least one configuration the front and rear attachments are configured to control the wave collector so that the wave collector moves with the wave so as to absorb horizontal and vertical energy of the wave.
