  • Patent number: 7059167
Abstract: Method and arrangement for accommodating indirect ascertainment of fill-characteristics of fluid tanks on marine vessels. The invention includes providing an experientially-based mapping of volume characteristics of a fluid tank positioned on a marine vessel that are correlated with respect to measurable fluid surface positions within the fluid tank. In consideration of this volume characteristic mapping, fluid fill condition information is output for operator use based on quantification of a parameter other than sensed fluid level in the fluid tank. While it is contemplated that the other parameter may be any characteristic that readily reads back to the volume characteristic mapping, it is particularly advantageous, and a preferred embodiment of the invention, that the other parameter be a volumetric quantification of fluid consumed out of the tank that can be compared to an earlier ascertained tank volume.

  • Patent number: 6273069
Abstract: A method for calibrating the injection time (&agr;) of a first fuel (6′) in a diesel engine (2). The method comprises the steps of feeding adjustment fluid (6) under pressure to an injection adjuster (3) which comprises an adjuster plunger (4). The diesel engine (2) is made to run at a constant speed (r). The adjuster plunger (4), which is coupled to a roller-bearing ring (15) for adjusting the injection time (&agr;) is adjusted with the aid of the pressure of the adjustment fluid (6). The fuel consumption of the diesel engine (2) is measured and the injection time (&agr;), when the fuel consumption converts from varying to being constant and/or vice versa, is recorded.

  • Patent number: 6026783
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for calibrating throttles for engines are disclosed with the methods including positioning the throttle in a predetermined position, detecting that position, and acknowledging the predetermined degree of application of the throttle whereby that predetermined degree of application is locked into correspondence with the predetermined position of the throttle for subsequent use of the throttle. The disclosed apparatus includes an actuator for locking a predetermined position of the throttle within the range of positions into correspondence with a predetermined degree of application of the throttle and acknowledging that predetermined degree of application of the throttle, and a detector for detecting the predetermined position of the throttle.

  • Patent number: 5947188
Abstract: A device (10) for cooling heat-sensitive components is disclosed. The device includes a housing (12) for receiving the components, and attachment means integral with the housing for attaching the device (10) to another component (24). The attachment means is provided with at least one passage (30; 32) for through flow of a cooling medium. The attachment means has an attachment member (22) connected to the housing (12) via a heat-conducting flange (23), with the attachment member having means for providing the attachment member between two components (26, 28), which components, in the absence of the attachment member, are couplable to each other.

  • Patent number: 5785562
Abstract: Drive unit for boats comprising an internal combustion engine (16) and an outboard drive (1) driven by the engine. The engine has an engine control unit (13) which holds the speed of the engine constant independently of the load on the engine. A flowmeter (15) continuously gives a signal, which represents the instantaneous fuel consumption to the engine control unit. A trim control unit (11) controls the trim angle of the drive so that the lowest fuel consumption for the set engine speed is achieved.

  • Patent number: 5389016
Abstract: An arrangement in a steering and propulsion system for a planing type motorboat. The boat is provided with means for adjusting the trim position. The steering characteristics of the boat are improved by providing the steering mechanism with a sensor for detecting rudder displacement. The sensor is connected to the trim position adjustment means via a microprocessor for recording the degree of steering displacement and is adapted to trim down the bow of the boat in the water when a certain steering displacement is exceeded.

  • Patent number: 4985005
Abstract: A boat-propeller unit comprises a carrier (4), a propeller-leg (5) and a sensor (13) which senses the angle of the propeller-leg relative to the carrier and which is intended for connection to an electrical indicating instrument mounted on the instrument panel of the boat. The sensor is of the kind which produces an output signal which varies as the distance of the sensor from an object and which is located centrally of a surface (11) on the propeller-leg, the distance of which from the sensor varies with changes in the angle of the propeller-leg relative to the carrier.
