  • Patent number: 5511906
Abstract: An arrangement for a boom for confining and collecting escaped oil, or the like, having a tubular casing and a shield part attached thereto. A plurality of spaced dividing walls are disposed within the tubular casing. The tubular casing is movable between a collapsed rest position and an expanded operational position. Expansion devices are attached to the tubular casing and are movable between a folded position and an unfolded position. Biasing members are attached to the expansion devices for urging the expansion devices into the unfolded position so that the tubular casing is moved into the expanded position. A valve is operatively attached to the tubular casing so that air may flow into the tubular casing through the valve when the tubular casing is expanded. An impervious flexible sheet material has a mid-portion and opposite side edges sealingly attached to the inside of the tubular casing so that the bottom end portions of the sheet hang.

  • Patent number: 4741089
Abstract: A method of producing a contaminant restraining boom, comprising an expandable buoyant body divided into chambers formed by joining together side members (2,3) and distributed along the boom. The side members are provided with chamber partitioning walls formed by partition members (7,8) each fastened transversely to the respective side member along a partition member edge (9) having a length substantially equal to the width of the side member, the edges (9) fastened to the respective side members being opposed to each other and in register, whereafter the opposed partition members are mutually attached along their free edges (15,16,17), whereafter the side members are tightly joined together along their outer edges together with the outer portions of the partition members.

  • Patent number: 4480800
Abstract: The apparatus comprises a turntable plate arranged on a platform (1), there being tube means (6) mounted on the plate such as to form a conical shape with the aid of a bolted joint (7). To one side of the turntable plate (3) there are arranged on the platform three rollers (12,13,14) and on another part thereof there is arranged a feed roller (29) and guide rolls (31,32). The roller (29) and guide rolls (31,32) are adjustable in two planes in relation to the platform (1). For winding up a boom it is taken between the rolls (31,32) over the feed roller (29) and over the rollers (12,13,14), where the expansion means are flattened so that the boom is wound up in a flattened condition on the tube means (6) forming the conically shaped winding bobin.

  • Patent number: 4356086
Abstract: The present invention concerns an arrangement for collecting of oil (11) and other contaminations floating on a water surface. The arrangement includes a container-like structure (7) floating on the water and provided with a closable inlet (15) for water and oil and located at the water surface level. In the bottom of the container-like structure (7) there is provided downwardly projecting tubes (16-18) ending into the water and provided with pump means (19-21) for pumping water in and out. At the upper portion of said structure (7) there is connected an outlet pipe (8) for oil. When pumping out water, oil is collected in the container space and at a subsequent pumping in of water the oil is pressed out through said outlet pipe (8), the inlet opening (15) being closed at that occasion.
