Abstract: An approach for processing an image is presented. A category specifying characteristics of a shape of a license plate of a vehicle is determined. Characteristics of objects in the image are determined to match the characteristics of the shape. The image is determined to include the license plate and an identifier. A category specifying characteristics of an order of alphanumeric characters in the identifier is determined. Characteristics of the objects in the image are determined to not match the characteristics of the order of the alphanumeric characters in the identifier and based on the lack of a match, the image is determined to not include an identifiable license plate. Responsive to determining the image does not include the identifiable license plate, the image is determined to be invalid and a manual character recognition process for determining identifiers on license plates is bypassed.

Abstract: A method for joining a ring member, e.g. a bearing inner race ring, to a shaft so that the ring member is primarily prevented from axial motion relative to the shaft involves arranging the ring member over the shaft so that the shaft extends through a bore in the ring member, and applying between the ring member and the shaft a clamping wedge force in which a tapering locking surface acts against a substantially corresponding tapering surface. The device for joining the ring member to the shaft includes a locking member mounted on the ring member and provided with a tapering contact surface that faces towards the shaft. An arrangement is provided for pressing the locking element against a tapering counter surface that is fixed in position relative to the shaft to prevent axial movement of the ring member on the shaft.

Abstract: A method for mounting on a shaft extending through a housing a preloaded rolling bearing assembly incorporating first and second rolling bearings capable of supporting axial load, involves mounting the outer race rings of both bearings in axially fixed positions in the housing, mounting the inner race rings with a shrink fit on the shaft and with rolling bodies disposed between the inner and outer race rings, and introducing in the interface between the inner envelope surface of the inner race ring of the second bearing and the shaft a pressure medium to create a thin medium film in the interface for allowing the inner race ring of the second bearing to be axially displaced on the shaft. An axial force is then applied to the inner race ring of the second bearing and the axial force thus applied is measured. The pressure medium is then drained from the interface between the inner race ring and the shaft when a predetermined axial force is reached, whereupon the axial force is relieved.

Abstract: An apparatus for contact-free sensing of a moving coherent mass of material, for example a stream of molten glass, comprises first sensing means for producing first output signals for determining the speed of advance of the material past the sensing apparatus and second sensing means for producing a second output signal related to a dimension, e.g. the diameter, of the material transverse to its direction of advance. The sensing apparatus further includes optical means comprising a common objective lens for supplying radiation focussed from the material being sensed to both said first and second sensing means.
