  • Patent number: 6296285
Abstract: A locking handle for a refrigerator includes a mounting element rigidly secured to a refrigerator door, a hand grip rigidly secured to the mounting element, and a latch attached to the mounting element. The latch has a catch movable between a locked position and an unlocked position and an actuator operably connected to the catch for moving the catch from the locked position to the unlocked position. The latch provides a positive lock which is actuated to an unlocked position with a manipulation separate from pulling the hand grip but has an actuator located near the hand grip so that it can be manipulated by a hand grasping and pulling the hand grip. In a first embodiment, the catch is integrally molded with the mounting portion and is laterally deflectable away from a retainer mounted beside the door. In a second embodiment the catch is a vertically extending spindle which is downwardly movable away from a retainer mounted above the door.

  • Patent number: 6152498
Abstract: A latch assembly for installation in a recess along a side edge of a wing element, for covering or uncovering an aperture, the latch assembly being adapted to hold the wing element in a closed position. The assembly includes a housing having at least one wall, at least one espagnolette bolt and an espagnolette rod. The espagnolette bolt is slidingly arranged in the housing between a first open position, in which the espagnolette bolt is retracted into the housing, and a second latching position, in which the espagnolette bolt projects from the housing to engage with a catch. The espagnolette bar is operatively connected to the espagnolette bolt for maneuvering the espagnolette bolt between the first open position and the second latching position. A latching pin is arranged for displacement with the espagnolette bolt, during movement of the espagnolette bolt from the first open position to the second latching position and back.

  • Patent number: 6068304
Abstract: An espagnolette edge bar assembly for use in a latch assembly. The espagnolette edge bar assembly includes an espagnolette edge bar lock housing mounting means (14) attached to the espagnolette edge bar, and an espagnolette rod connector associated with the lock housing mounting means. The espagnolette rod connector is arranged for displacement along the espagnolette edge bar.

  • Patent number: 5143412
Abstract: A locking mechanism for a sash type window comprising two adjacent sashes arranged to slide one behind the other in a generally horizontal direction within an enclosing frame is disclosed. When the window is in its closed position, actuation of the locking mechanism causes the sashes to slide relative to one another in a direction away from each other to assure better sealing between the sashes and the enclosing window frame. In a preferred embodiment, the two sashes are also drawn towards each other in a direction perpendicular to the sliding direction in order to obtain better sealing between the sashes themselves. The locking mechanism may also be used on sliding doors.

  • Patent number: 5090750
Abstract: A locking mechanism for windows having upper and lower sashes slidably disposed in a window frame. In the locked position of the mechanism, locking bolts mounted on the transverse rail of one sash engage a sidewall of a guide groove in the window frame, thereby forcing that sash towards the other sash to effect a better seal between the sashes. Optionally, at least one sash clamp mounted on a transverse rail of one sash is adapted to engage a cooperating receiving element affixed to the adjacent transverse rail of the other sash. In the unlocked position of the mechanism, the sash clamp disengages the receiving element, and the locking bolts release contact with the sidewall of the guide groove while still remaining within the groove. The locking mechanism also has a release position in which the locking bolts are retracted from the guide groove to permit the sash to be moved transversely for cleaning.
