  • Patent number: 11181091
Abstract: A wave energy conversion system has a float and a power generation drum with a drum housing rotationally attached to the float by a shaft attachment. The shaft attachment allows a rotational movement of the drum housing and the float relative to each other. The drum housing holds a cable reel with a cable having a first end part connected to the cable reel and a second end part, where the cable reel is an integral part of or connected to the drum housing to rotate with the drum housing. The float can be positioned in the sea by having the second end part of the cable attached to a submerged structure or to the sea bed. When the float is positioned in the sea, the float may be moved by the waves, which movements cause a rotational movement of the drum housing with electric power being generated.

  • Publication number: 20200011289
Abstract: A wave energy conversion system. The system has a float and a power generation drum with a drum housing rotationally attached to the float by a shaft attachment. The shaft attachment allows an at least partially rotational movement of the drum housing and the float relative to each other. The drum housing holds a cable reel with a cable having a first end part connected to the cable reel and a second end part, where the cable reel is an integral part of or connected to the drum housing to rotate with the drum housing. The power generation drum may comprise an electrical generator arranged within the drum housing for rotating or turning in response to a rotational movement of the drum housing. The float can be positioned in the sea by having a second end part of the cable attached to a submerged structure or to the sea bed.

  • Patent number: 7956478
Abstract: A wave power apparatus at least a part of which is permanently fixed to the sea floor or to ground, i.e. such as to a breakwater, a mole, a pier, a jetty, a cliff or an oil rig. The wave power apparatus (302) includes a plurality of rotationally supported arms (322), each of which carries a float (324) at its free end, so that a translational movement of the float caused by a wave results in rotation of the arm. The apparatus comprises power conversion means for converting power transmitted from the wave to the arms into electric power, e.g. a hydraulic system, in which a hydraulic fluid is displaced by the movement of the arms (322) to drive one or more hydraulic motors. The plurality of apparatus is arranged in a row such that a wave passing the row of arms causes the arms to successively pivot with a mutual phase shift. Thereby, an even power output may be achieved, and the need for frequency converters may be reduced or eliminated.

The apparatus comprises power conversion means for converting power transmitted from the wave to the arms into electric power, e.g. a hydraulic system, in which a hydraulic fluid is displaced by the movement of the arms to drive one or more hydraulic motors. Thereby, an even power output may be achieved, and the need for frequency converters may be reduced or eliminated. Preferably, each arm is connected to a hydraulic cylinder of the hydraulic system, whereby a plurality of arms feed hydraulic medium into the hydraulic motor or motors through common hydraulic conduits.

The apparatus comprises power conversion means for converting power transmitted from the wave to the arms into electric power, e.g. a hydraulic system, in which a hydraulic medium is displaced by the movement of the arm, the hydraulic system being coupled to an electric generator. The apparatus comprises a hydraulic lifting system for lifting the float out of the ocean and for locking the float in an upper position above the ocean surface, e.g. during extreme sea wave conditions, such as storm. The lifting system may comprise at least one pump for pumping hydraulic cylinders for lifting the arm out of the ocean.
