  • Patent number: 7871122
Abstract: A crash box consists of two U-profiles (18, 19) of sheet metal, the webs of which (21, 23 and 20, 22) overlap and are joined such that the crash box obtains a closed profile. The two joined sides (21, 23 and 20, 22) of the crash box have a number of transverse dents (26-33) with intermediate side areas (34-40) along their lengths. One web, or both webs, in one pair or in each pair of joined webs (21, 23 and 20, 22) has notches (50-54) in its edge in some of the dents (26-33) or in the intermediate areas (34-40), or both of these, as initiators of deformation.

  • Publication number: 20060179823
Abstract: A piston-type internal combustion engine (10) having an intake line (20) for delivering air to combustion chambers of the engine and an exhaust system (15, 22) for removing exhaust gases from said combustion chambers. The exhaust system includes equipment (29, 30) for reducing environmentally harmful exhaust emissions from the engine, which is intended to function with variable load in order to propel a vehicle. The exhaust system (15, 22) has a branch pipe (26) controlled by a valve (24) and bypassing at least one part of the equipment (29, 30) for reducing environmentally harmful exhaust emissions. The valve (24) is controlled so that it leads the exhaust gas flow through the branch pipe (26) over a part of the overall load range of the engine. The engine is optimized in order to give acceptable exhaust emissions over said part of the overall load range of the engine.

  • Patent number: 6526954
Abstract: A system for regulating the fuel-air mixture in a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine. The system utilizes binary sensors to detect relative deviations from stoichiometric combustion, including individual combustion events, and allows for regulation to achieve optimal and similar combustion to take place in all the cylinders.

  • Patent number: 6331232
Abstract: Apparatus for the reduction of nitrogen oxides in gas streams are disclosed comprising an oxygen ion-conducting substrate, an anode disposed on the substrate, a cathode disposed on the substrate, and a voltage source connected to the anode and the cathode in which the cathode is comprised of gold so that the nitrogen oxides are adsorbed and dissociated on the cathode, nitrogen may recombine into nitrogen gas on the cathode, and oxygen ions are transported through the substrate from the cathode to the anode. Methods for the reduction of nitrogen oxides in gas streams are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6238536
Abstract: Exhaust gas analyzers are disclosed for analyzing the exhaust gases from a combustion process including a sensor unit mounted for direct contact with the exhaust gases in which the sensor unit includes a number of sensors such as lambda sensors, NOx sensors, oxygen sensors, and residual heat sensors, mounted on a common substrate for detecting specific gases and temperatures in the exhaust gases and generating signals based thereon, the substrate being an oxygen-ion-conductive ceramic material and the sensors elements including conductive patterns applied to the common substrate, and a common analyzer connected to the sensor units for analyzing the signals generated by the sensor elements.
