  • Publication number: 20140141727
Abstract: An apparatus including a chamber that defines an internal cavity therein, adapted to enclose the device under test, and including walls of an inwardly reflective material, rendering the walls reflective to electromagnetic waves, thereby simulating a multi-path environment. Thus, the chamber is a reverberation chamber. At least one moveable object and chamber antenna are arranged in the cavity. A measuring instrument is connected to the device under test and the chamber antenna, for measuring the transmission between them. Further, an improved antenna holder is disclosed, comprising three surfaces of a reflective material, said surfaces extending in planes which are orthogonal in relation to each other and each surface facing away from the other surfaces, and wherein a chamber antenna is arranged on each of said at least three surfaces. Other improvements relate to video surveillance, channel emulation and shielding.

  • Patent number: 8130162
Abstract: The invention describes a broadband multi-dipole antenna that has low input reflection coefficient, low cross polarization, rotationally symmetric beam and constant beam width and phase center location over several octaves bandwidth. The dipoles are fed from one or a few feed points, and they may with advantage have log-periodic dimensions. The antenna is more compact, has lighter weight and is cheaper to manufacture than other solutions. It is very well suited for feeding single, dual or multi-reflector antennas.

  • Publication number: 20110181373
Abstract: A microwave device having a narrow gap between two parallel surfaces of conducting material by using a texture or multilayer structure on one of the surfaces. The fields are mainly present inside the gap, and not in the texture or layer structure itself, so the losses are small. The microwave device further comprises one or more conducting elements, such as a metal ridge or a groove in one of the two surfaces, or a metal strip located in a multilayer structure between the two surfaces. The waves propagate along the conducting elements. At least one of the surfaces is provided with means to prohibit the waves from propagating in other directions between them than along the ridge, groove or strip. At very high frequency the gap waveguides and gap lines may be realized inside an IC package or inside the chip itself.

  • Patent number: 7444264
Abstract: An apparatus and a method are for measuring the radiation efficiency of antennas and the communication power of mobile and wireless terminals. The apparatus includes a chamber to enclose the antenna or terminal to be tested. The chamber includes walls of an inwardly reflective material, rendering the walls reflective to electromagnetic waves. The quality of the antenna or terminal is obtained by averaging the power transmitted between the antenna under test and a fixed antenna, or the power received at the fixed antenna when the terminal under test is used as a transmitter. The averaging is done over the measured power for several different positions of moving objects in the chamber and of a moving platform on which the antenna or terminal under test is located. The radiation efficiency or communication power is obtained by relating the measured average levels to those of a reference antenna or a reference terminal of known radiation efficiency or communication power.

  • Patent number: 7286961
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for measuring the receiver sensitivity of mobile and wireless terminals is disclosed, including a chamber to enclose the terminal to be tested (TUT). The chamber includes walls of an inwardly reflective material, rendering the walls reflective to electromagnetic waves, and at least one movable object within the chamber. The terminals include at least both a receiver and an antenna. The apparatus further includes an instrument to measure bit error rate (BER) or frame error rate (FER) connected to an antenna inside the chamber and set up to communicate with the TUT, wherein the received signal on the TUT shows fading obtained by moving the movable objects within the chamber.

  • Publication number: 20050040918
Abstract: In the invention strip-loaded dielectric substrates are used as amean to improve or construct new types of antennas or microwave devices. The strips are made of metal, and they are provided with periodic elements that prohibits quasi-TEM waves from being guided between the strips and the groundplane on the opposite side of the substrate, and surface waves from propagating in the substrate. Examples of such elements are: shorting pins, also called via holes or simply vias, between the strips and the ground plane; removed pieces of the strips, so that they actually look like long rectangular patches rather than strips; short pieces of the strips with a different strip width; other parasitic elements in direct contact with the strips or near them.

Abstract: An apparatus and a method for measuring the radiation efficiency of antennas and the communication power of mobile and wireless terminals, comprising a chamber to enclose the antenna or terminal to be tested (AUT). The chamber comprises walls of an inwardly reflective material, rendering the walls reflective to electromagnetic waves. The quality of the antenna or terminal is obtained by averaging the power transmitted between the antenna under test and a fixed antenna or the power received at the fixed antenna when the terminal under test is used as a transmitter. • Patent number: 6137449
Abstract: The invention consists of improvements of reflector antennas with self-supported feeds. The feed consists of a waveguide tube, a dielectric joint and a sub-reflector. The tube is attached to the center of the rotationally symmetric reflector and extends to the focal region of it. The sub-reflector is located in front of the tube, and the surface of this sub-reflector is provided with rotationally symmetric grooves also called corrugations.

  • Patent number: 6020859
Abstract: The present invention provides a reflector antenna which has dual polarization with low cross polarization within the main lobe and side lobes of the radiation pattern. The antenna includes a dish-shaped main reflector with a center located, self-supporting tubular feed element and a sub-reflector mounted on the free end of the tube and located at the focal area of the main reflector. The tube and sub-reflector are separated by a space which can be open or filled with a dielectric material. The diameter of the sub-reflector is greater than the tube. The surface of the sub-reflector facing the main reflector includes one or more concentric circular corrugations which can be filled with a dielectric material.

  • Patent number: 4963878
Abstract: A reflector antenna with a dish-shaped main reflector (10), and a self-supporting feed (11) for the transmission or reception of polarized electromagnetic waves. The feed (11) consists of a tube (12) which is attached to the middle of the main reflector (10) and is terminated by a subreflector (13) so that an intermediate space (14) is formed between the subreflector and the end of the tube. The part of the tube that is nearest the intermediate space (14) contains a cylindrical waveguide (15), or is the waveguide itself, and has an approximately circular or quadradic cross-section. Externally, the intermediate space (14) is bonded by a circular, cylindrical surface (16) with the same diameter as the outer diameter of the tube (12) this being called the aperture surface.
