  • Patent number: 6016432
Abstract: A conventional utility meter has numeric information supplied to a display. The utility meter is modified by the addition of a module port for a telecommunications module. The telecommunications module receives the numeric information which is supplied to the display, and communicates that numeric information as data signals to one of the plurality of standardized wireless telephone networks.

  • Patent number: 5963872
Abstract: A modular telecommunications system for an electronic audio system being specially configured for wireless telecommunication in accordance with a preselected standard. Modular units are adapted to be secured within AM/FM radios, tape players, automobiles, and the like, for establishing a telecommunications link with a wireless network. The modular unit comprises a housing for mounting a telecommunications transceiver in the particular item of electronic audio systems, and a microphone or keyboard is provided for generating user communication signals. In this manner, electronic equipment may be purchased for its conventional, non-telecommunications use such as entertainment or commercial monitoring with the added flexibility of wireless telecommunications. An electronic audio system having conventional audio components is modified for utilizing a telecommunications module containing a transceiver.

  • Patent number: 5890074
Abstract: A modular unit having a telecommunications component, a switching circuit, and a headset link is adapted for connection with a host electronic device. The headset link of the modular unit communicates with a module link in a headset. The headset also contains earphones or a speaker, a microphone, and a control panel in electrical connection with the module link of the headset. The speaker, microphone, and control panel of the headset communicate with the headset link of the modular unit through the module link in the headset. The switching circuit of the modular unit controls whether the headset link of the module is in electrical connection with the telecommunications component of the modular unit or an electronic audio component of the host electronic device.

  • Patent number: 5771468
Abstract: The invention provides a modular base station for use in a plurality of telecommunications systems where the systems operate according to different standards. The base station comprises a chassis having means for removably mounting system components to allow system components to be removed and replaced for operation in telecommunications systems operating according to varying standards. In a two system embodiment of the invention, logic circuitry and RF circuitry for each of the two systems is mounted in four PCMCIA slots. The base station can be used in either of the two systems depending on which systems control signals are received. When it is desired to use the base station in a third system that operates according to a third standard, the logic and RF circuitry of one of the systems can be replaced with circuitry capable of operation in the third system.

  • Patent number: 5628055
Abstract: A modular telecommunications system configured for wireless telecommunication in accordance with a pre-selected standard. Modular units are adapted to be secured within other items of electronic equipment for establishing a telecommunications link with a wireless network. The modular telecommunications unit comprises a housing for mounting a radio transceiver therein. The housing includes a plurality of contacts arranged along a first end, the contacts being adapted for engagement with contacts in the electronic equipment, and at least one radio connector disposed along the second, opposite end of the housing and connected to the radio transceiver within the housing whereby the radio transceiver can be coupled to an antenna to enable communication therefrom.
