Abstract: A method and apparatus in a system comprising cordless telecommunication utilize fuzzy-logic to evaluate at least two radio communication parameters when making a handoff decision, or to produce basic data on which a handoff decision can be made. The parameters are assigned membership to at least two input data sets, each having its own membership function. The parameters are divided into groups and a rule table of fuzzy-condition statements is formed. The fuzzy-condition statements are executed and the consequences weighted to a crisp-value which is used in conjunction with handoff. The inventive apparatus includes a fuzzy-processing unit for grouping parameters and executing rules, a unit for determining the crisp-values, for instance the average value, maximum value and/or the minimum value of rule consequences, and an evaluating unit which uses the crisp-values in conjunction with establishing a candidate list or in making a handoff decision.

Abstract: A method of facilitating interchanging the use of a mobile station and a permanently wired telephone set includes providing the number of the permanently wired telephone set as a bar code near the telephone set. A bar code reader is connected to the mobile station for scanning the bar code for ordering of interchanging the mobile station and the permanently wired set without dialing the number on a keyset of the mobile station. A predetermined interchanging key on the keyset is designated and connected for ordering the interchanging. The interchange is initiated by scanning the bar code with the bar code reader and pressing the interchanging key.

Abstract: In a cellular mobile radio system, a handoff method allows a mobile station to be handed off from one base station to another base station when an alarm case occurs in an operator controlled manner in an attempt to save the connection. A cell border is defined where a handoff is allowed from a first base station to a second base station by comparing the radio transmissions between a mobile station and the first and second base stations. The handoff border is then moved by an offset value to form an alarm case cell border, wherein an alarm case handoff from the first base station to the second base station is allowed only when the mobile station experiences an alarm case and is in the area bounded by the handoff cell border and the alarm case handoff border.
