  • Patent number: 5103716
Abstract: An apparatus for brewing beverages in portions, especially espresso coffee, comprises means (9-12) for dispensing ground coffee beans (14) to a coffee receiving means (1) as well as water feeding means (22, 42-45) for passing hot water through the coffee in the coffee receiving means (1) and further to a cup (48). The coffee receiving means (1) comprises a sleeve-shaped body (3) made of a resilient material, said body on the outside being supported by a substantially rigid supporting means (4) and on the inside between the ends being of a volume exceeding the measured amount of coffee powder (14). The water feeding means (22, 42-45) comprises a piston device (22), which during the feeding of water is adapted to simultaneously compress both the measured amount of coffee (14) and the sleeve-shaped body (3) in its axial direction, while the amount of coffee (14) and the sleeve-shaped body (3) at the opposite axial end are supported by a sieving means (17, 18) allowing passage of the brewed hot beverage.

  • Patent number: 4934257
Abstract: A method and an assembly for brewing beverages in portions, such as freshly brewed coffee, in packages, where at first an outer cup is delivered to a filling means conveying the cup below successive ingredient delivering means and a water feeding means for filling the first outer cup with the desired liquid and corresponding flavorings. Then a filtering means places a second, inner cup on the surface of the liquid in the outer cup, whereupon the inner cup is pressed into the outer cup by means of a piston means. The inner cup comprises a bottom acting as a filter for the liquid. During the compressing of the two cups the liquid is enclosed in an air-tight space between the two cups, the volume of said space being gradually reduced during the compressing. This results in a filtering of the liquid in the outer cup upwards into the inside of the inner cup during the compressing. The residue is left between the two cups. The resulting package is then ready to be delivered.

  • Patent number: 4635816
Abstract: A vending machine dispensing cups containing freshly made beverages comprises inter alia a cup dispenser delivering the cups one by one to a filling device. The cup dispenser includes a magazine for several succeeding rows of stacks of cups situated on a bottom. This bottom is shaped with a delivery opening allowing the front stack of cups to fall downwards by gravity upon an advancing in the magazine so as to position on a delivery mechanism present below the delivery opening. At activation this delivery mechanism is adapted to remove the lowermost cup in the stack and to deliver the cup to the filling device. The cup dispenser comprises furthermore a sensor detecting that the uppermost cup in the stack present in the delivery opening is positioned below the bottom of the magazine, the sensor furthermore activating a driving means to advance the row of stacks in the magazine. Furthermore the sensor allows the following stack to fall through the delivery opening.

  • Patent number: 4625776
Abstract: A vending machine delivering cups containing freshly made beverages and comprising a cup dispenser dispensing empty cups to a filling device (4) receiving each cup during the making process, said vending machine comprising at least one powder dispensing device for an adjustable dispensing of portions of the powder to the cup in the filling device (4), as well as a water feeding device feeding water to the cup with the powder. The filling device (4) comprises a cup holder (46) supporting each cup during the filling in of the individual ingredients of the beverage. This cup holder (46) is capable of weighing the cup and one or more of the added ingredients in sequence so as thereby to regulate the adjustment of the associated dispensing device and the water feeding device as well as to detect whether the contents thereof are about to being used up.
