  • Patent number: 6102648
Abstract: A vehicle lift for use in conjunction with a vehicle to facilitate passengers boarding and leaving the vehicle. The vehicle lift has an improved driving mechanism for moving a platform between a stowed position to a deployed position. The driving mechanism includes a bidirectional motor which is mechanically coupled to a gear box which in turn is coupled to a pinion that is connected to a main sprocket. A longitudinal bracket is affixed to the underside of a top panel of the mounting enclosure and is located parallel to a longitudinal guide bar. At both ends of the longitudinal bracket are sprockets which are coupled by a loop chain. Accordingly, engaging the main sprocket with the loop chain moves the traveling assembly inward or outward with respect to the vehicle. The chain is immobilized by a manual spring biased locking mechanism to prevent the chain from moving linearly along the bracket.

  • Patent number: 5832555
Abstract: A compact movable ramp assembly is provided that can be securely stored beneath a vehicle floor and safely and reliably operated. The ramp assembly comprises a mounting structure having a series of top panels that form the vehicle floor. The ramp assembly also includes a moveable platform that deploys outward from the mounting structure forming an extended ramp from the ground level to the vehicle to allow the passage of passengers across the platform into and out of the vehicle. The compact design of the ramp assembly is achieved by enclosing the motor unit within the ramp assembly and positioning the drive mechanism above the moveable platform but below the top panels of the mounting structure. The platform is formed of two portions pivotally connected by a hinge which enables the platform to pivot downward and allows the ramp assembly to be used in partial stages of deployment.

  • Patent number: 5636399
Abstract: A movable ramp assembly is provided that can be securely stored and safely and reliably operated. The ramp assembly includes a platform that is conveniently stored to travel with a vehicle and deployed in a motion pattern to allow the passage of passengers across the platform into and out of the vehicle. The motion pattern includes an upwardly inclined motion and a downwardly inclined motion which together accommodate most uneven terrain on which the vehicle may be parked. In the disclosed embodiment, the motion pattern of the platform is faciliated by cam guides formed within side beams of a mounting structure and cam followers provided on bracket arms supporting the platform at one end. As the cam followers follow the cam guides, the platform is pitched upwardly at an incline and then downwardly at an incline when the platform is deployed from storage. As part of the top panel of the mounting structure, a hinged panel is provided, having multiple functions.

  • Patent number: 5556250
Abstract: A vehicle lift, as for wheelchairs, incorporates a horizontally disposed load platform pivotally affixed to a laterally spaced-apart parallelogram elevating frame which is in turn pivotally affixed to a carriage, allowing a composite travelling assembly (platform, elevating frame and carriage) to be stowed in a mounting enclosure. A hydraulic ram actuates the parallelogram elevating frame mechanisms to position the platform at different terminal positions. At the stowing level, a pair of laterally spaced-apart rack-and-pinion mechanisms actuate the aligned platform, elevating frame and carriage inboard, on laterally opposed guide rails to be stowed in a mounting enclosure. A roll stop mechanism is affixed to the outboard end of the platform and is automatically actuated to move from a ramp position at ground level to a vertical safety stop position when the platform is elevated.

  • Patent number: 5253973
Abstract: A lift for attachment to a vehicle for moving mobility-impaired passengers between lowered and raised positions for entry and exit. A platform (27) is affixed to an unequal modified parallelogram structure (20), the combination being supported on movable rails (40,41) and carried by rollers (90, 91) for movement by an electric motor (52) between extended and retracted positions in relation to the vehicle. The rails (89) may define a curved portion (89b) to change orientation of the platform combination for storage to an inclined position. The unequal modified parallelogram structure (20) is actuated by a hydraulic ram (34) acting through pivot plates (17, 18) on a common transverse axis (34a) with the upper members of the parallelogram structure (20) to raise and lower the platform (27) so as to incline slightly downward when raised and slightly upward when lowered. The platform may be sectioned with a pivoted part affording a step for the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4711613
Abstract: A vehicle lift device comprises structure 23 which is fixed to the chassis beneath the vehicle floor 11, a parallel linkage 21 carrying a platform 50 and connected to the structure 23 for movement at a level beneath floor 11 about vertical axis 22 so that the linkage and platform can be moved between an operative position extending from the vehicle and a stowed position beneath the vehicle floor 11. A single ram 40 can move the linkage up and down for raising and lowering a load, for example a wheel-chair, to permit the load to be moved on to the floor through a doorway which is not obstructed by the lift device. The platform can be collapsed for storage and the linkage has nesting members 35a, 37 for resisting possible injury.
