  • Publication number: 20070171850
Abstract: Paging messages are transmitted by a wireless communications network to mobile terminals, which have been in an idle state or dormant mode and which have waiting calls/data from their associated peer entities, in accordance with the qualities of service (QoS) associated with the waiting calls/data, where the QoS associated each waiting call/data includes a type of the call/data. To make paging of mobile terminal QoS aware, a QoS field is included in the Paging Announce requests sent from an RNC to another RNC, or from an RNC to a BTS. The QoS field includes: a QoS class of service of the waiting call/data indicating the type of the waiting call; a grade of service of the waiting call/data to which the mobile terminal is subscribed; and, optionally, other QoS service flow parameters whose presence depends on the type of wireless technology being used in the network.

  • Publication number: 20060209752
Abstract: Cellular signals or other wireless signals/messages are introduced into a building or to an outside location by transmitting packets corresponding to those signals over a data network and low cost cables to designated locations within the data network. Once the designated packets containing the signals reach the destination, they are then broadcast over the air to a terminal capable of receiving the wireless message. In a first embodiment, an in-building gigabit Ethernet network, such as that currently existing presently in many buildings, is used to distribute radio signals indoors. Instead of transmitting the radio signals over the air from a repeater connected to a base station, coded baseband signals generated by the coding processor (e.g., a CDMA Modem Unit) in the base station are packetized and sent over the Ethernet network to radio processing equipment and antennas distributed throughout the building.

  • Publication number: 20050239491
Abstract: A power control system for a wireless communications system adjusts the transmit power of a wireless transmitter in relation to a number of acknowledgments expected for radio transmissions over a wireless link. For example, a wireless unit monitors the number of acknowledgments it receives (or fails to receive) for radio packets that the wireless unit transmitted over the wireless link. The wireless unit determines the number of acknowledgments lost in relation to the number of acknowledgments expected to be received by the wireless unit. The number of acknowledgments expected by the wireless unit can be based on the number of radio packets transmitted by the wireless unit. If the number of ACKs lost/number of ACKs expected is greater than a first threshold, the wireless unit increases the transmit power level. If the number of ACKs lost/the number of ACKs expected is below a second threshold, the wireless unit decreases the transmit power level.

  • Publication number: 20050043026
Abstract: A communication system selection algorithm (SSA) implemented by a mobile station chooses between available systems to select a system to serve the mobile station. During initialization, the SSA causes the mobile station to scan the environment and compare available communication systems to determine the best system to provide service. After an initial system is chosen, the SSA causes the mobile station to continuously, or at discrete time intervals, scan the environment for available systems, thus allowing for a seamless switch to an available system whenever a handoff is desired. The SSA chooses the best available system based on conditions such as bit rate and cost of each available system and applying preference rules defined by a service provider and/or user of the mobile station.

  • Patent number: 5556406
Abstract: A method for the selective removal of corneal tissue, and change of curvature thereof, for refractive vision correction, by means of a correction template in conjunction with a planar cutting high pressure water jet micro-keratome. The correction template is adapted to provide a planar cutting guide, on the corneal tissue, for the refractive correction required, with the template being shaped with a non-planar surface of predetermined configuration (related to the desired correction). The non-planar surface of the template is fitted to the area of the cornea to be refractively corrected, whereby the corneal tissue to be removed is selectively deformed so as to be substantially conformed to and held against the non-planar surface. Application of a vacuum between the template and cornea aids in this holding.

  • Patent number: 4917454
Abstract: A page scanner employing a plurality of light pipes such as optical fibers is gathered to provide a linear geometry at one end and merely gathered in a pigtail at the other. The pigtail is coupled optically to a photosensor array such as a CID which is accessible on a random access basis. The linear end is arranged astride a page to be scanned to define a scan segment across the page. During operation, the scan segment is exposed to light and the photosensors in the CID are read out in a sequence which organizes the pixel data in a proper sequence to correspond to the sequence of pixels in the linear end. The photosensors of the CID are all read with essentially identical soak-read times by accessing the sensors twice, the second time in a reverse order (and subsequent to the resetting to zero of all sensors in the array), and by storing and by normalizing the resulting data thus producing like exposure times for all sensors of the array and eliminating smearing.
