  • Publication number: 20190033843
Abstract: A system for detecting an abnormal operating condition of a component of a genset power system, which includes an engine drivingly coupled to a generator, is provided. The system also includes at least one vibration sensor configured to measure vibrations of the genset power system, and a controller. The controller is programmed to receive vibration sensor data from the vibration sensor, and process the vibration sensor data using a modeling software to generate simulated data. The simulated data is filtered using frequency-based filtering to obtain filtered data, and frequency domain information of the filtered data is compared to threshold data to identify the abnormal operating condition of the component.

Abstract: A system for detecting wear or failure of a genset coupling of a genset power system is provided. The system includes a vibration sensor for measuring vibrations, and an additional sensor for measuring an operating condition. A controller is configured to process operating condition data from the additional sensor using a modeling software to generate simulated data. The controller applies time domain information of at least one of the simulated data and vibration sensor data to the modeling software using a machine learning algorithm, and perform a comparison to identify wear or failure of the coupling, wherein, when performing the comparison, the controller compares at least one of: time domain information of the vibration sensor data to time domain information of the simulated data or frequency domain information of the vibration sensor data to frequency domain information of the simulated data, to identify wear or failure of the coupling.

  • Patent number: 9988135
Abstract: A system for limiting power to a plurality of on-line consumers includes an operating characteristic sensor associated with each of a plurality of prime movers and a controller. The controller is configured to determine a maximum torque capability of each of the plurality of prime movers, determine the available electrical power response of each of the plurality of generators, determine a total available electrical power response, and determine a total maximum power demand. The controller then compares the total available electrical power response to the total maximum power demand, and upon the total maximum power demand exceeding the total available electrical power response, limits power to the plurality of on-line consumers to no more than the total available electrical power response.

  • Patent number: 9964984
Abstract: A system for allocating power generation between a constant speed generator set and a variable speed generator set. A controller determines an operating power demand from on-line consumers, and determines an anticipated transient power demand from a new consumer or one with an increasing power demand. The controller allocates the electrical power response between the generator sets to meet both the operating power demand prior to a transient condition and the total power demand upon the occurrence of the transient condition. The allocation may be based upon operating modes of the system.

  • Publication number: 20170012440
Abstract: An electrical power system includes a plurality of generator sets (gensets) having different response capabilities which are connected to a common bus that is coupled to an electrical load. The gensets may be operatively associated with one or more electronic controllers. Each genset has an operational range applied to it and a power target set for it. In the event of a change in the power demand by the electrical load, the operational ranges and the power target setting are changed according to the response capabilities of the individual gensets. To facilitate the change, the faster responding genset can operate intermittently according to various methods to generate additional power to compensate for the power deficiency of the slower responding genset as it adjusts to its changed settings.

  • Publication number: 20170012439
Abstract: A plurality of generator sets, or gensets, each including an electrical generator operatively associated with a prime mover, are arranged in parallel to generate electrical power for an isolated electrical load. To account for fuel efficiency, emissions considerations or similar consideration associated with the prime movers, an asymmetric load sharing method may be used to regulate operation of the plurality of gensets. A control strategy is configured to allocated real power demands of the electrical load among the plurality of gensets in accordance with the asymmetric load sharing method. The control strategy may account for the reactive power portions of the electrical load in addition to the real power portions.
