  • Patent number: 5423928
Abstract: A process for creating a pile yarn design and transferring it to a substratum, such as an article of clothing, involves the creation of the design on a temporary supporting medium, utilizing the medium to secure the design to the substratum, and then removing the medium from the pile yarn design. More particularly, a thin sheet of non-stick, moisture-proof plastic sheet material is stretched within a peripheral support, such as an embroidery hoop. Lengths of yarn are placed over the pattern, and a tweezer tool is utilized to punch the yarn through the plastic sheet so that loops extend outwardly from a side thereof. This process is utilized to create the pile yarn design on the plastic sheet. When the design is completed, glue is applied over a base portion of the pile yarn design, and the plastic sheet medium is then utilized to place the glue-coated yarn base portions into contact with the substratum.

  • Patent number: 5407108
Abstract: A bow making machine includes a magnetized anvil fixed to a base between four upwardly extending, channel-forming posts. The magnetized anvil holds a barrette in place within the channel defined by the posts, and loops of bow-forming ribbon material are placed over the barrette such that a central portion of the ribbon material is also situated between the posts. A ribbon/staple holder is placed over the central portion of the ribbon material to sandwich the barrette and the ribbon material between the ribbon/staple holder and the anvil. A staple is placed within the ribbon/staple holder, and then a punch assembly is pivoted into place to align a punch mechanism with the staple. The punch mechanism is depressed to force the ends of the staple into engagement with the anvil, which has the effect of binding the sandwiched central portion of the ribbon material and the underlying barrette together.

  • Patent number: 5372506
Abstract: A process for painting a design onto a clothing item to create wearable art utilizes a draw-through-pattern graphics system. When creating wearable art on a clothing item such as a shirt, a backing board is placed within the shirt so as to underlie the shirt fabric to which the design will be applied. A bracket is placed over the shirt and engages a peripheral portion of the backing board in a manner causing the shirt fabric to be stretched over the backing board and to clamp a portion of the shirt between the bracket and the backing board. A screen pattern bearing a printed outline pattern thereon is removably placed in register within the bracket. Fabric markers or fine-tipped fabric paint bottles are utilized to apply a fabric paint or like substance through the screen pattern onto the underlying portion of the shirt to re-create the printed pattern.

  • Patent number: 5352120
Abstract: Decorative beads are applied to a selected substrate, such as an article of clothing, in a pre-determined arrangement, utilizing a rod-like skewer and a folding chart or guide having a mirror image of the predetermined pattern printed thereon. The process for applying the decorative beads involves the steps of first placing the clothing article over a flat rigid surface such as a painting board and flattening the clothing fabric without unduly stretching it. The chart is placed over the clothing article so that the mirror image pattern is placed directly over the location where the beads are to be applied. The chart is folded back to expose a row of the pattern indicia, and beads corresponding to the pattern indicia are placed onto the skewer. Glue is applied to the clothing article adjacent to the row of pattern indicia, and then the row of beads on the skewer are brought into contact with the glue and aligned with the chart.

  • Patent number: 5306374
Abstract: A handicraft is created on a first medium and temporarily retained thereon for transfer and permanent attachment to a second medium. More particularly, a pattern is printed on one side of a transparent or translucent sheet material. On the opposite side of the sheet material there is a coating of a pressure sensitive temporary adhesive through which a reverse image of the pattern is visible. The outer surfaces of a craft material are then placed onto the sheet material over the pattern and are held thereon by the temporary adhesive. When satisfied with the arrangement of the craft material on the sheet material, a permanent adhesive is applied to the exposed surface of the craft material. The assembly of the craft material and the underlying sheet is then pressed against a desired transfer surface, such as an item of clothing, and kept in place until the permanent adhesive dries.
