  • Patent number: 7889143
Abstract: An antenna system internal to a radio device, the system comprising separate antennas and having separate operating bands. The system is implemented as decentralized in a way that each antenna is typically based on a small-sized chip component, which are located at suitable places on the circuit board and possibly on also another internal surface in the device. The chip component comprises a ceramic substrate and at least one radiating element. The operating band of an individual antenna covers, for example, the frequency range used by a radio system or only the transmitting or receiving band in that range. At least one antenna is connected to an adjusting circuit with a switch, by which the antenna's operating band can be displaced in a desired way. In this case the operating band covers at a time a part of the frequency range used by one or two radio systems.

  • Publication number: 20100220016
Abstract: An antenna system internal to the device especially intended for small-sized mobile stations, the system having separate operating bands. The system is implemented as decentralized in a way that the device (300) has a plurality of separate antennas (310-360). Each antenna is based on (a) radiating element(s) on the surface of a dielectric substrate. The substrate can be, for example, a piece of ceramics or a part of the outer casing of the device. The antennas are located at suitable places in the device. The operating band of an individual antenna covers the frequency range used by one radio system, the frequency ranges close to each other and is used by two different radio systems or only the transmitting or receiving band of the frequency range used by a radio system. If the device has a shared transmitter and a shared receiver for the radio systems using frequency ranges close to each other, there can anyway be a separate antenna for each system or the antenna can also be shared.

Abstract: An antenna system internal to a radio device, the system comprising separate antennas and having separate operating bands. The system is implemented as decentralized in a way that each antenna is typically based on a small-sized chip component (310; 320; 330; 340; 350; 360; 610), which are located at suitable places on the circuit board (PCB) and possibly on also another internal surface in the device. The chip component comprises a ceramic substrate and at least one radiating element. The operating band of an individual antenna covers e.g. the frequency range used by a radio system or only the transmitting or receiving band in that range. At least one antenna is connected to an adjusting circuit with a switch, by which the antenna's operating band can be displaced in a desired way. In this case the operating band covers at a time a part of the frequency range used by one or two radio systems.

  • Patent number: 7663551
Abstract: A multiband antenna, and component for implementing a multiband antenna for, e.g., a small-sized radio device. In one embodiment, the antenna component comprises a simple and reliable dielectric substrate, the conductive coating of which forms a radiating element. This has a plurality (e.g., two) resonances for forming separate operating bands. The lower resonance is based on the entire element, and the upper resonance on the head part of the element. The conductive coating has a pattern, which functions as a parallel resonance circuit between the head part and the tail part of the element. The natural frequency of this parallel resonance circuit is in the range of the upper operating band of the antenna. The resonance frequencies of the antenna and thus its operating bands can be tuned independently of each other so that the tuning cycle need not be repeated.

  • Publication number: 20090231201
Abstract: A dielectric dual antenna (300) intended especially for small-sized radio apparatuses, with one partial antenna (310) of which is implemented the lower operating band of the antenna and with the second partial antenna (320) the upper operating band. The partial antennas have a shared feed point (FP) in the antenna structure, e.g. at the end of a radiating element (312) of one partial antenna, in which case the other partial antenna receives its feed galvanically through said radiating element by a short intermediate conductor (332). The partial antennas are located so that their substrates (311, 321) are heads face to face, and the main directions of the radiating elements i.e. the conductive coatings of the substrates starting from the shared feed point are opposing. The tunings of the partial antennas corresponding to different operating bands are obtained independent from each other without discrete matching components.

  • Publication number: 20090140942
Abstract: An internal antenna especially aimed at flat radio devices. The antenna (200) comprises a planar radiator (220) with a branch (221) for forming a lower operating band for the antenna and a second branch (222) for forming an upper operating band. The branches typically form a frame-like pattern. There remains a slot (230) between the branches, opening to the outer edge of the radiator approximately in the middle of the edge running in the direction of the end of the circuit board (205) and being outside the circuit board as seen from above. The omnidirectional radiation of the antenna on its upper operating band improves as compared to the corresponding, known antennas, and its efficiency improves, because the average antenna gain increases.

  • Publication number: 20080204328
Abstract: A dielectric dual antenna apparatus intended for applications such as small-sized radio frequency devices. The dual antenna comprises a first partial antenna which implements the lower operating band of the antenna and another partial antenna implementing the upper operating band. The partial antennas have a shared substrate, which together with the radiators constitutes an integrated antenna component. The matching of the dual antenna can be improved in either operating band without degrading it in the other operating band at the same time. Methods of operating the aforementioned apparatus are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5793269
Abstract: A stepwise regulated filter includes a resonator structure and a coupling connected to the resonator structure. The resonating frequency of a transmission line (HX1) acting as a resonator may be switched between at least three values. The switching is implemented using coupling elements (SL1, SL4) which are in an electromagnetic coupling (M2, M3) with the resonator (HX1). The potentials of the coupling elements (SL1, SL4) are affected by PIN diodes (D1, D2) acting as switches. A RF power signal, which is coupled from the resonator (HX1) to the coupling elements (SL1, SL4), is applied to both terminals of at least one diode (D1) with the same phase and power. Then the voltage across the diode (D1) cannot, in the blocking state, rise to a level that would cause undesirable mixing results or would damage the diode (D1).
