  • Patent number: 6745069
Abstract: The invention relates to an electronic wrist-worn device, such as a heart rate monitor, a sportsman's watch or a diving computer, and its control method. The outside of the casing of the device comprises a bottom surface to be placed against the wrist, a top surface (304), and a side surface (308) between the bottom surface and the top surface (304). On the top surface (304) of the casing there is provided a first display (306) connected to the control electronics. On the side surface (308) of the casing there is provided a second display (400, 402, 404; 406) connected to the control electronics. The best viewing angle of the first display (306) and the best viewing angle of the second display (400, 402, 404; 406) are at an angle of 60 to 120 degrees with respect to each other.

  • Publication number: 20030004424
Abstract: A heart rate monitor and methods for monitoring a user's heart rate, which enable the monitor to be used under different sets of exercise and physiological parameters or profiles without reprogramming between different profiles. The exercise parameters include an exercise type, a day of the week, a time, a user's name, a level of difficulty, and physiological parameters of the user including height, weight, age, and level of fitness. A sensor detects the user's heartbeat, and an input device enables the user to enter information to be associated with each of a plurality of exercise profiles. A memory device stores the profiles, and an indicating device provides a sensory indication of when the user is outside a target heart rate zone. The profiles may be uploaded from a computer and information obtained during the profiles may be downloaded for additional review, analysis, and processing.

  • Patent number: 6418394
Abstract: The invention relates to a measuring device (102) carried by a user during exercise for measuring non-invasively at least one signal from the body, e.g. a wireless heart rate monitor, and to a method of controlling same. The measuring device comprises a user interface (120). The user interface comprises selection means (114), e.g. push buttons (114), and display means (116,122), e.g. a liquid crystal display. The user interface (116) displays different operating modes, e.g., a watch mode (300), a set mode (306) and an operating mode (302) for measuring a signal from the body. The operating modes have different sub-operating modes for displaying parameter associated with exercising. In accordance with the invention, the user is shown specified operating modes and sub-operating modes.

  • Patent number: 6405077
Abstract: The invention relates to a method applied in connection with a personal non-invasive heart rate measuring arrangement. In the method, information is supplied to the heart rate measuring arrangement to form several heart rate limit alarm pairs, each of which comprises a lower limit and an upper limit for the heart rate. Time information on each heart rate limit pair is also supplied in the method, the time information indicating a time period during which a heart rate limit alarm pair or at least one of the heart rate limits of a heart rate limit alarm pair is effective during the exercise, controlling the exercise. A heart rate limit alarm sequence progressing in accordance with the time information on the heart rate limit alarm pairs is formed in the method from the heart rate limit alarm pairs, and the heart rate limit alarm sequence is used during the exercise to control the exercise.

The user interface (116) displays different operating modes, e.g. a watch mode (300), a set mode (306) and an operating mode (302) for measuring a signal from the body. The operating modes are arranged as a main loop sequence (300-302-304-306). The operating modes have different sub-operating modes for displaying parameters associated with exercising. The sub-operating modes are arranged as sub-loop sequences (400-404-406-410) under each operating mode. In accordance with the invention, the user is able to configure the sub-loop sequence (400-404-406-410) by the selection means (114).
