  • Publication number: 20050092474
Abstract: A heat exchanger stack includes two or more nestable plates formed of a plate material being substantially unresponsive to electromagnetic impulse welding, and wherein each plate includes a generally flat central portion having a plurality of protrusions protruding from one or more surfaces thereof and one or more pairs of edge portions generally formed non-coplanar relative to the generally flat central portion. The two or more plates are arranged in a nesting arrangement and spaced apart by the protrusions so as to define therebetween a space through which a heat exchange medium may flow. Further, two or more plates are affixed together by electromagnetic pulse welds at a plurality of welding locations which include the protrusions and one or more pairs of edge portions. Also, the two or more plates are mutually connected at the welding locations via a facilitator substrate, which is highly responsive to electromagnetic impulse welding, and which is disposed on one or more of the two plates.

  • Patent number: 6513240
Abstract: A method of forming a heat exchanger stack from a plurality of plates, wherein the plurality of plates includes at least first and second nestable plates formed of an electrically conductive material. Each plate has a generally flat central portion and at least a pair of edge portions generally non-coplanar relative to the respective central portions of the plates. Each plate has a plurality of protrusions which is formed so that, when the plates are in a stacked, nested position, the respective pluralities of protrusions of the first and second plates engage each other, such that the respective central portions of the plates are spaced apart, thereby to define therebetween a space through which a heat exchanging medium may be passed.

  • Patent number: 6186224
Abstract: A combination of a plurality of heat exchange plates and sealing gaskets therefor, for use in a heat exchanger arrangement, each heat exchange plate having first and second sides, an edge, and a groove formed in the upper side thereof, extending along and spaced from the edge, and each sealing gasket having an elongate main portion, for seating in the groove of a first heat exchange plate, and for sealing between the first heat exchange plate and a second of the heat exchange plates when the second heat exchange plate is retained in compressive association therewith; and a plurality of plate gripping portions located in spaced arrangement along the length of the main portion, formed integrally therewith, and extending transversely away therefrom, for gripping predetermined portions of the plate so as to attach the gasket thereto, wherein the plate gripping portions are formed so as to provide to an assembler a visual indication as to whether the plate gripping portions and the plate are properly fastened toge

  • Patent number: 5069276
Abstract: A parallel-flow heat exchanger composed of a plurality of stacked, substantially flat panels defining between them, in the stacked state, spaces through which are adapted to flow the media intended to exchange heat. In the panels there are provided inlet and outlet openings for each of the media. In the stacked state, the space between the nth and the (nth+1) of the panels is traversed by one of the media, while the space between the (nth+1) and the (nth+2) panel is traversed by the other one of the media. The inlet and outlet openings are located outside of the confines of the major surfaces of the panels and the axes of the openings lie in planes substantially parallel to the general plane of the panels.

  • Patent number: 4979493
Abstract: A solar fluid heater consisting of a solar collector and a storage vessel. The solar collector includes a supply outlet and a return inlet, a supply conduit, leading the heated fluid from the supply outlet to the vessel, and a return conduit, returning the cold fluid from the vessel to the return inlet. The supply conduit comprises two contiguous portions, a first portion substantially exposed to the same night temperature as in the collector, and extending between the supply outlet and a transition zone. The first supply conduit portion takes an altogether descending course from the supply outlet to at least the transition zone, and a second portion is adapted to maintain it at night at a temperature substantially equaling that of the vessel contents and extends from the transition zone to the outlet opening of the supply conduit inside the vessel, whereby, during the night, the temperature of the first return-conduit portion is substantially equal to the temperature of the vessel contents.
