  • Patent number: 6702728
Abstract: A moveable tape head mechanism for a box erecting machine having a fixed guide rail and an adjustable guide rail includes a cradle which carries a tape head, the cradle being horizontally slidable between operational and loading positions to expedite replacement of a tape roll contained thereon. In the operational position, the tape head mechanism is detachably held by a pin in operational alignment with a box flap closure apparatus. The tape head mechanism is moved from the operational positional to the loading position by installing a cover plate over the tape head to compress the rollers into the tape head, disengaging the pin from its corresponding receptacle formed on the flap closure apparatus, and sliding the tape head mechanism under a frame member and outside the perimeter of the box erecting machine. When the tape head is in the loading position, the tape roll is located outside the perimeter of the box erecting machine to facilitate replacement thereof.

  • Patent number: 6319183
Abstract: A box erecting machine that can readily be set up to assemble boxes of different sizes contains pointers and scales permitting the vertical and horizontal adjustment of the box magazine, the centering of the flap folding structures, and the vertical adjustment of the box hold down plates to be readily set according to the dimensions of the box to be assembled. The vertical adjustment of the box magazine, the horizontal adjustment of the box magazine, and the centering of the flap closure apparatus are adjusted until the corresponding pointer and scale of those structures indicate the width measurement taken directly from the box. The hold down plate assembly is adjusted until the corresponding pointer and scale indicate the height of the box as measured directly therefrom. Horizontal adjustment of box magazine width and horizontal adjustment of an adjustable guide rail are performed against an actual box placed in those structures.

  • Patent number: 6199681
Abstract: A conveyor system for retaining an empty box thereon includes a conveyor assembly slidably adjustable on a frame. The conveyor assembly includes a set of rollers rotationally mounted on a support rail attached to the conveyor assembly. A corresponding set of rollers are rotationally mounted to another support rail parallel and spaced apart from the first support rail and fixedly attached to the frame. The rotational axis of each of the rollers is angled forward in the direction of operative travel of the conveyor belt and box. In operation, the angled rollers snugly engage the box and urge the box against the conveyor belt when the box is translated thereby. The distance between the two sets of rollers is adjusted by sliding adjustment of the conveyor assembly with respect to the frame, thus providing for expedited set up of the conveyor system to handle boxes of different widths.

  • Patent number: 5372569
Abstract: A method and apparatus for accurately positioning a plurality of slotted boxes which are in a flat collapsed state, in a magazine of a box erector. The box erector handles and sets up the boxes into a position having an open top for subsequently receiving items therein while moving bottom closure flaps into a generally closed position. A laser unit is mounted adjacent a box supply loading magazine of the box erector and projects a beam of light against a box placed in the magazine. The magazine then is adjusted until the fixed light beam strikes a predetermined location on the box, preferably the end of a slot formed between adjacent major and minor flaps of the box. This light beam strike location correlates with a location at an unfold station of the erector which receives a bottom corner of the box.
