Patent number: 11856511Abstract: Generally described, one or more aspects of the present application correspond to techniques for dynamic management of the network used for data transfer between a connected vehicle and a remote computing system. For example, during navigation a connected vehicle may switch between connections to a number of different networks, and the pricing of these networks may be periodically recalculated based on current network load. The disclosed techniques can select from among available networks to dynamically optimize the cost of data transfer, even as a vehicle navigates through different networks and as network pricing is changed.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2021Date of Patent: December 26, 2023Assignee: Faraday & Future Inc.Inventor: Peter A. Patent number: 9888426Abstract: Various aspects of the disclosure relate to handoff of a user terminal in communication with a satellite network portal through a satellite. In some aspects, a satellite network portal and a user terminal use a satellite handoff information to determine when to handoff the user terminal from one cell to another and/or from one satellite to another. In some aspects, a user terminal sends capability information, location information, or other information to a satellite network portal whereby, based on this information, the satellite network portal generates the satellite handoff information and/or selects a handoff procedure for the user terminal. In some aspects, handoff of a user terminal to a different satellite involves the user terminal conducting satellite signal measurements and sending a measurement message to the satellite network portal. In some aspects, the satellite network portal generates new satellite handoff information as a result of receiving a measurement message.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 2016Date of Patent: February 6, 2018Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Fatih Ulupinar, Punyaslok Purkayastha, Peter A Barany, Gene Wesley Marsh

Patent number: 9049581Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate indicating global cell identifier (GCI) reporting in wireless communication to mitigate confusion caused by physical cell identifier (PCI) reporting in heterogeneous deployments. In particular, mobile devices can report GCI of access points to disparate access points to facilitate communication therebetween, such as during handover. Mobile devices can indicate GCI reporting during a system access request by selecting an access sequence corresponding to subsequent GCI reporting. Based on the access sequence, an access point can grant additional resources to receive the GCI, and the mobile device can communicate GCI over the resources. Using the GCI, the access point can communicate with a disparate access point related to the GCI.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 2009Date of Patent: June 2, 2015Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Parag A. Patent number: 8976729Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure propose methods for reporting information such as a maximum power spectral density to a serving access point after receiving overload indicators from one or more neighboring access points. The reported information may be multiplexed with other information (e.g., Channel Quality Indicator (CQI), Precoding Matrix Index (PMI), rank indication (RI) or acknowledgement (ACK)/negative acknowledgment (NACK) message for downlink data channel) before transmission to the serving access point. In addition, the information may be transmitted in a medium access control (MAC) packet data unit (PDU).Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 2010Date of Patent: March 10, 2015Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Tao Luo, Aleksandar Damnjanovic, Durga Prasad Malladi, Yongbin Wei, Peter A. Patent number: 8743905Abstract: Techniques for bundling and ciphering data prior to transmission are described. In an exemplary design, a transmitting entity receives a plurality of service data units (SDUs) from an upper layer, assigns sequential sequence numbers to the SDUs, and bundles the SDUs into a single protocol data unit (PDU). In one design, the transmitting entity generates a single count value based on a sequence number of a designated SDU (e.g., the first SDU) in the PDU and ciphers all SDUs based on the single count value. In another design, the transmitting entity ciphers each segment of at least two SDUs in the PDU based on a count value for that segment. The transmitting entity generates a header with at least one sequence number and possibly length and/or other information for the SDUs. The transmitting entity forms the PDU with the header and the SDUs and passes the PDU to a lower layer.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 2009Date of Patent: June 3, 2014Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Siddharth Ray, Ashwin Sampath, Peter A. Patent number: 8630259Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate configuring a flush timer within a wireless environment in order to provide robust communications in regards to handover or re-establishment. The flush timer can be triggered upon successful completion of reconfiguration re-establishment. Moreover, the flush timer can be triggered upon successful completion of handover. In the case of handover and re-establishment, a separate indication of handover to packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) from the start of PDCP flush timer can be utilized.Type: GrantFiled: July 9, 2009Date of Patent: January 14, 2014Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Nathan Edward Tenny, Peter A. Patent number: 8509180Abstract: An efficient use of downlink (DL) air-interface bandwidth during handoff of user equipment from a source cell to a target is provided. In conjunction with a handoff message to ensure receipt, expedited status exchanges are provided so that initial communications do not require a subsequent retransmission of duplicate data. A method for transmitting a dedicated Random Access Channel (RACH) preamble and cell information, receiving a RACH from the user equipment to start communication, and transmitting a handover message and a radio link control (RLC) status message or an UL grant in response to receiving the RACH is provided. Also, a method for receiving a handover message and target cell information from a source cell to start handover negotiations, initiating communication with target cell using the target cell information, receiving a handover message and (RLC) status message, and using the received information to approximate status reporting is provided.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 2009Date of Patent: August 13, 2013Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Shailesh Maheshwari, Sai Yiu Duncan Ho, Peter A. Patent number: 8406172Abstract: A mobile communications system includes a radio access network, such as an Enhanced General Packet Radio Service (EGPRS) network, in which mobile stations are able to enter into a discontinuous transmission (DTX) mode. During DTX mode of a first mobile station that is allocated a channel portion (e.g., a time slot of a frame), the radio access network is able to multiplex traffic from another mobile station onto the same channel portion. A mechanism is provided to enable the first mobile station to send a request for re-allocation of the channel portion. The request includes a real-time fast access associated control channel (RTFACCH) resource request message (RTRRM). In response to the RTRRM, the radio access network sends an RTFACCH resource assignment message (RTUAM).Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 2009Date of Patent: March 26, 2013Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Peter A. Publication number: 20110268085Abstract: Techniques for performing forward handover in a wireless communication system are disclosed. In one aspect, a user equipment (UE) transmits a connection request to a target eNodeB. The connection request may be transmitted when the UE detects a connection failure in a communication with a source eNodeB. The UE receives a connection response from the target eNodeB in response to the target eNodeB requesting handover preparation information from the source eNodeB. In another aspect, a target eNodeB may receive a connection request from a user equipment (UE) and transmit a radio link failure (RLF) recovery request message to a source eNodeB to prompt the source eNodeB to initiate handover of the UE from the source eNodeB.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 18, 2010Publication date: November 3, 2011Applicant: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Peter A.
