Abstract: In accordance with certain embodiments of the present invention, a method includes generating a platform independent software framework using a graphical modeling language. The platform independent software framework includes one or more platform independent components each describing a platform independent behavior common to each of a plurality of computing platforms and one or more platform specific components each corresponding to a platform specific plug-ins of a platform specific model. The platform specific model corresponds to one of the plurality of computing platforms. The method further includes generating, using the graphical modeling language, a particular platform specific model corresponding to a particular computing platform of the one or more computing platforms.
