  • Patent number: 10341531
Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for applying a perceptually uniform color space to image color values within a captured image data. The method includes identifying, via a processor of an image capturing device, a perceptually uniform color space that includes only real colors identified within a plurality of real-world images. The method further includes applying, via the processor, the perceptually uniform color space to a color processing stage of an image processing pipeline. The method further includes in response to receiving, at the image capturing device, image data including image color values associated with a primary color space, converting, via the processor, the image color values to the perceptually uniform color space to generate image data having more perceptual uniformity for colors that are frequent in the real world.

  • Patent number: 10169671
Abstract: An electronic device incorporates features that are dependent on finding a face by image processing of an image taken by an image capturing device. To avoid false positives and false negatives due to poor focus, exposure, or spoofing with a picture, the electronic device validates, by distance and/or temperature, a candidate face within a captured image. Distance information is used to scale the candidate face to an actual size for comparison against biometric data on a range of sizes of a human face. Detected temperature is compared against biometric data on the temperature of a human face sensed in the infrared spectrum. Confidence value for face detection is increased or decreased in relation to the validation by size/temperature. For a validated candidate having a confidence value above a threshold, the electronic device can adjust camera controls of an image capturing device or enable a face recognition security component.

  • Patent number: 10033939
Abstract: A method and apparatus provide automatic stage scene detection. A first image of a scene can be captured using a luminance for automatic exposure control. A brightness contrast between a center region of the first image and areas surrounding the center region of the first image can be calculated. A brightness value can be ascertained for the entire first image. Whether the luminance of the first image should be adjusted can be determined based on the brightness contrast being greater than a contrast threshold and the brightness value for the entire first image being less than a brightness value threshold. The luminance for the automatic exposure control can be adjusted for correct exposure of the center region of the first image in response to determining the luminance of the first image should be adjusted. A second image of the scene can be captured based on automatic exposure control using the adjusted luminance.

  • Patent number: 10021313
Abstract: Various implementations provide different image adjustment parameters for post-processing a multi-frame image generated from multiple individual images. A computing device includes an image sensor that is configured to capture and generate multiple images of a scene. The multiple images are then aligned and pixel values of the aligned images are combined to generate a multi-frame image with reduced image noise and improved image sharpness in comparison to each of the multiple images. The computing device then applies different adjustment parameters to the multi-frame image in order to generate an output image that provides a high-quality representation of the scene. In implementations, the computing device automatically selects and applies adjustment parameters to a multi-frame image based on a number of individual images used to create the multi-frame image.

  • Publication number: 20170230559
Abstract: A method and apparatus provide automatic stage scene detection. A first image of a scene can be captured using a frame luma for automatic exposure control. A brightness contrast can be calculated between a center region of the first image and areas surrounding the center region of the first image. A brightness value can be ascertained for the entire first image. The first image can be determined to be a stage scene image based on the brightness contrast being greater than a stage scene contrast threshold and the brightness value for the entire first image being less than a stage scene brightness value threshold. The frame luma for the automatic exposure control can be adjusted for correct exposure of the center region of the first image in response to determining the first image is a stage scene.

  • Publication number: 20170034459
Abstract: An electronic device includes an image capture device, such as a camera, a user interface and one or more processors. The one or more processors can receive an image from the image capture device and detect distortion occurring in the image. The one or more processors can then obtain weather data of a location where the image was captured and determine whether the weather data indicates a weather condition, such as fog, responsible for the distortion. Where this is the case, the one or more processors can perform distortion reduction on the image to reduce weather-related distortion occurring in the image. Otherwise, the one or more processors can present a prompt with a notification to clean at least a portion of the image capture device.

  • Patent number: 8832799
Abstract: A method in a portable electronic device (100) of authenticating enhanced wide area network data usage capabilities is provided. Data communication between the portable electronic device and a wide area network (104) is detected, along with commencement a dual-operating system hybrid environment (111). The dual-operating system hybrid environment can include a first operating system environment (114) operable to communicate with the wide area network at a restricted data rate and a second operating system environment (116) operable to communicate with the wide area network at either the restricted data rate or an enhanced data rate. A verification whether the portable electronic device is authorized to communicate with the wide area network at the enhanced data rate is then performed. Where true, the second operating system environment can be configured to communicate with the wide area network at the enhanced data rate.
