  • Patent number: 10249061
Abstract: Content creation and sharing integration techniques and systems are described. In one or more implementations, techniques are described in which modifiable versions of content (e.g., images) are created and shared via a content sharing service such that image creation functionality used to create the images is preserved to permit continued creation using this functionality. In one or more additional implementations, image creation functionality employed by a creative professional to create content is leveraged to locate similar images from a content sharing service.

  • Publication number: 20190051052
Abstract: A digital medium environment includes at least one computing device (e.g., a user's mobile device) in an environment. Systems and techniques are described for presenting a photorealistic augmented reality experience in real time on the computing device. A lighting representation of the environment is obtained from a partial view of the environment, such as from an image of the environment, and used to render a 3D asset (e.g., graphics of a synthetic object). The 3D asset is inserted into the environment by compositing the rendered 3D asset with the image of the environment accounting for occlusion and based on the lighting representation to form a composite image. Photorealistic processing is applied to the composite image by adding lighting for the rendered 3D asset to a portion of the background of the composite image. Consequently, the inserted graphic is indistinguishable from the real-world scene.

  • Patent number: 10198590
Abstract: Content creation collection and navigation techniques and systems are described. In one example, a representative image is used by a content sharing service to interact with a collection of images provided as part of a search result. In another example, a user interface image navigation control is configured to support user navigation through images based on one or more metrics. In a further example, a user interface image navigation control is configured to support user navigation through images based on one or more metrics identified for an object selected from the image. In yet another example, collections of images are leveraged as part of content creation. In another example, data obtained from a content sharing service is leveraged to indicate suitability of images of a user for licensing as part of the service.

  • Publication number: 20180365906
Abstract: Image compensation for an occluding direct-view augmented reality system is described. In one or more embodiments, an augmented reality apparatus includes an emissive display layer for presenting emissive graphics to an eye of a user and an attenuation display layer for presenting attenuation graphics between the emissive display layer and a real-world scene to block light of the real-world scene from the emissive graphics. A light region compensation module dilates an attenuation graphic based on an attribute of an eye of a viewer, such as size of a pupil, to produce an expanded attenuation graphic that blocks additional light to compensate for an unintended light region. A dark region compensation module camouflages an unintended dark region with a replica graphic in the emissive display layer that reproduces an appearance of the real-world scene in the unintended dark region. A camera provides the light data used to generate the replica graphic.

  • Publication number: 20180330548
Abstract: Digital content interaction and navigation techniques and systems in virtual and augmented reality are described. In one example, techniques are employed to aid user interaction within a physical environment in which the user is disposed while viewing a virtual or augmented reality environment. In another example, techniques are described to support a world relative field of view and a fixed relative field of view. The world relative field of view is configured to follow motion of the user (e.g., movement of the user's head or mobile phone) within the environment to support navigation to different locations within the environment. The fixed relative field of view is configured to remain fixed during this navigation such that digital content disposed in this field of view remains at that relative location to a user's field of view.

  • Publication number: 20180300592
Abstract: Font replacement based on visual similarity is described. In one or more embodiments, a font descriptor includes multiple font features derived from a visual appearance of a font by a font visual similarity model. The font visual similarity model can be trained using a machine learning system that recognizes similarity between visual appearances of two different fonts. A source computing device embeds a font descriptor in a document, which is transmitted to a destination computing device. The destination compares the embedded font descriptor to font descriptors corresponding to local fonts. Based on distances between the embedded and the local font descriptors, at least one matching font descriptor is determined. The local font corresponding to the matching font descriptor is deemed similar to the original font. The destination computing device controls presentations of the document using the similar local font. Computation of font descriptors can be outsourced to a remote location.

  • Publication number: 20180229351
Abstract: An anti-rotational socket retainer tool for retaining a socket over one of a pair of threaded fasteners (e.g., bolt/nut) in a fixed, non-rotatable position, illustratively, at adjacent hubs/flanges of pipe sections while another tool is used to rotatably attach/detach the other fastener end thereto. The anti-rotational socket retainer includes a central base having top and bottom surfaces, and integrally formed opposing support arms extending laterally from the base between the top and bottom surfaces to define a concave arcuate contact surface having a predetermined radius of curvature greater or equal to the curvature of the pipe section. The distal ends of the lateral arms define an arc not exceeding one-hundred and eighty degrees. A drive member extends from the top surface of the base and at a predetermined distance from the arcuate contact surface to retain a socket selected for placement over the fastener end to be held in position.

  • Publication number: 20180211135
Abstract: In embodiments of event image curation, a computing device includes memory that stores a collection of digital images associated with a type of event, such as a digital photo album of digital photos associated with the event, or a video of image frames and the video is associated with the event. A curation application implements a convolutional neural network, which receives the digital images and a designation of the type of event. The convolutional neural network can then determine an importance rating of each digital image within the collection of the digital images based on the type of the event. The importance rating of a digital image is representative of an importance of the digital image to a person in context of the type of the event. The convolutional neural network generates an output of representative digital images from the collection based on the importance rating of each digital image.

  • Patent number: 10016786
Abstract: A process for manufacturing a coated panel. The process can comprise providing a panel having at least an upper surface, a lower surface, and edges joining the upper surface and the lower surface. The panel can be arranged so that the lower surface is facing upwards, and first particles can be dispersed on the lower surface of the panel. The process can comprise turning the panel so that the upper surface is facing upwards, and applying first particles and second particles on the upper surface of the panel. A décor can be applied in the form of a printed pattern to the upper surface. The process can further comprise curing and/or melting the first particles to form a sealed upper surface whereby the surface forms a coating providing at least one property of abrasion resistance and scratch resistance on the surface.

  • Publication number: 20180177520
Abstract: HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) sometimes FUS or MIFUS is a highly precise medical procedure using high-intensity focused ultrasound to heat and destroy pathogenic tissue rapidly in the brain for neurosurgical purposes, by causing coagulation necrosis. Here we have described a system that uses specially designed micro-transducer heads that are placed inside the later ventricles for the purposes of MIFUS lesioning of brain targets under real time MRI, endoscopic and Doppler guidance. A minimally invasive approach using Kocher's point allows small incisions with little bleeding, recovery time, infection risk and surgical time. This approach allows insertion of the micro-ultrasound transducers into the lateral ventricles of the brain avoiding skull bone attenuation of the ultrasonic waves and unnecessary heating of brain tissues in the process.

  • Publication number: 20180061128
Abstract: Digital content rendering coordination techniques in augmented reality are described. In one example, a user is provided with a first display device via which an augmented reality environment is to be viewed that includes at least a partial view of a physical environment. As part of this physical environment, a second display device (e.g., a desktop monitor, a mobile phone, and so forth) is also viewable by a user through the first display device, i.e., is directly viewable. Techniques are described herein in which a view of digital content on the second display device is coordinated with a display of digital content on the first display device. This may be used to support a variety of usage scenarios to expand and share functionality associated with these different devices.
