  • Patent number: 5979914
Abstract: A lathe chuck jaw assembly utilizes top jaws which have replaceable inserts mounted to their clamping faces. The inserts are used to provide a contact surface to hold a workpiece during machining. The contact surfaces of the inserts may be machined for matching a particular workpiece shape such as round stock, hex stock, square stock, or custom configurations. A boring ring is installed between the top jaws and rotated so that the inserts may be symmetrically machined. Alternatively, a polygonal insert blank having congruent sections which are joined with keys along their outer sides may be loaded in the lathe chuck and machined for a particular workpiece. A pad adapter base for supporting a hardened collet pad is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5791661
Abstract: A chuck has a plurality of top jaws for engaging a workpiece. Each top jaw has a recess and a slot that extend completely through the top jaw. The recess and slot allow the forward end of the top jaw to deflect in a rearward direction. This motion allows the jaws to maintain even pressure on the workpiece instead of cocking, thereby minimizing deflection of the workpiece during machining. The slot defines a rearward facing shoulder on the forward end. The maximum deflection of the forward end is limited by the width of the slot. The distance of deflection may be limited by pins located within holes extending through the jaw perpendicular to the slot.

  • Patent number: 4522563
Abstract: This invention relates to a system for mounting a helicopter rotor on a flapping axis and, more particularly, to use of an improved unitary trunnion-bearing structure of minimal parts which may be selectively preloaded and which is readily installed.

  • Patent number: 4379678
Abstract: Individual blade control of a helicopter rotor is accomplished by rotation of a mast (10) about a standpipe (12) where an individual blade (16) is coupled to the mast through a hub (18). Pilot input signals are transmitted by fly-by-optic transmission lines (14) through a fiber optic slip ring (40,42) to signal generators (134, 136, 138) for each of three sections of triplex actuators (76-79) coupled to individual rotor blades. Hydraulic fluid for positioning each of the actuators (76-79) is provided by electrohydraulic power packages (88, 90 and 92) where each package includes a pump and alternator. As each blade rotates about the mast (76) the pitch angle changes by individualizing the output of the signal generators (134-138) for each actuator.

  • Patent number: 4227857
Abstract: A yoke for coupling helicopter blades to a mast is provided. The yoke comprises a long oval loop of glass fibers embedded in a cured adhesive to form a solid strap. The side portions of the loop are reinforced with layers of bias ply glass fibers arranged in parallel planes. Structure is provided to couple to the side portions of the loop for attachment to the mast.
