Abstract: There is disclosed herein techniques for use in authentication. The techniques comprise providing multiple selectable image portions. The techniques also comprise selecting a first image portion of the multiple selectable image portions. The said selecting of the first image portion comprises performing a first operation to associate a first marking with the first image portion in an identifiable manner. The techniques further comprise generating information for use in authentication based on the first image portion and the first marking associated with the first image portion.

Abstract: A method of running an application in a process virtual machine (PVM) on a computing device using a dynamically-linked module (DLM) with an integrity self-check feature is provided. The DLM is written in PVM-native bytecode, and the PVM is configured to execute applications stored as PVM-native bytecode within a single code file associated with that application. The method includes (a) dynamically linking the application to the DLM by loading the PVM-native bytecode of the DLM from a resource file separate from the single code file of the application, (b) performing the integrity self-check feature on the DLM to ensure the integrity of the PVM-native bytecode of the DLM, and (c) in response to the DLM passing the integrity self-check, calling functions of the DLM from within the application. Embodiments directed to analogous computer program products and apparatuses are also provided.

Abstract: A first machine (e.g., server VM) authenticates an untrusted second machine (e.g., new client VM) as a condition to performing or allowing a protected operation. An authentication identifier is written to a file of a file system using one mechanism, and then read from the file using another mechanism. One of the mechanisms is an untrusted mechanism employing the untrusted second machine, while the other is a trusted mechanism performed by the first machine either alone or in combination with a trusted management component that has privileged access to the file system. If the written and read values match, it can be inferred that the second machine is authentic, because the trusted management component has identified and accessed an existing file system that is also separately accessed by the second machine.

Abstract: A photopolymerizable composition which comprises at least one ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable monomer, at least one selected ketone and at least one organic peroxide. The compositions are useful in the preparation of adhesives, paints and varnishes particularly in dental applications and exhibit reduced air inhibition on being cured by visible radiation in the range 400 m.mu. to 500 m.mu..
