Patent number: 6416453Abstract: The present invention relates to a “poly” bag machine and, more particularly, to mechanisms for operating the seal bar component of such machines. The machine according to the invention includes a mechanism for reciprocatingly raising and lowering the sealing bar in which the movement and position of the sealing bar are controlled by the drive shaft and are selectively adjustable by one or two separate servo-drives. A main link is coupled to a seal bar drive shaft for movement in direct response to its rotation. A second link is movably coupled to the main link. A servo-drive system including a servo motor or servo valve is coupled to the second link for adjusting the position of the second link with respect to the main link while the main link is moving in response to the rotation of the drive shaft.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2000Date of Patent: July 9, 2002Assignee: Ro-An Industries Corp.Inventors: John Simonetti, Peter Terranova

Patent number: 6332414Abstract: A sewing machine accessory with an accessory head which can be quickly and easily attached and removed from a sewing machine. One version of the accessory head can be mounted to a sewing machine foot, while another version can be mounted on a sewing machine shank. Either version can use a protrusion in a mating slot to serve as the mounting connection, configured so that simply inserting the protrusion into the slot is sufficient for attachment, and simply removing the protrusion from the slot is sufficient for detachment. A particular embodiment of the accessory can enable straight seams or hems to be sewn parallel to a material edge without requiring a steady hand or great skill by the operator. An edge guide is provided with a predetermined offset from the sewing machine needle, thus permitting the operator to guide the material through the sewing mechanism in a very straight line, with the resulting seam being a consistently accurate distance from the edge of the material.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 1999Date of Patent: December 25, 2001Assignee: Wizarad Attachment Co., Inc.Inventors: Steven R. Tayrien, Peter A. Terranova

Patent number: 5911184Abstract: An improvement to a sewing machine which allows ribbons, trim, elastic bands and other linear-shaped materials to be accurately and automatically controlled and guided as they are fed into the sewing mechanism. For elastic, an adjustable control is provided that automatically prestretches the elastic as it feeds into the machine. This control allows the user to adjust the amount of tension in the elastic, and thus control the amount of stretch which is sewn into the finished product. These features are implemented in a hands-free manner, so the operator is not burdened with having to manually guide the materials while simultaneously tending to all the other manual duties that a sewing machine operator must typically contend with. The invention is implemented with one or more guides which can be mounted on the sewing machine foot. Custom feet are provided to allow the invention to be retrofitted onto existing sewing machines.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 1997Date of Patent: June 15, 1999Assignee: Wizard Attachment Co., Inc.Inventors: Steven R. Tayrien, Peter A. Terranova

Patent number: 5833107Abstract: A split bag making machine includes a first primary split draw roller and a second primary split draw roller, each having first and second web contacting sections which are independently rotatable, the first section of the first primary split draw roller being in rolling engagement with the first section of the second primary split draw roller at a first nip, the second section of the first primary split draw roller being in rolling engagement with the second section of the second primary split draw roller at a second nip. A first servo motor is coupled to the first web contacting section of the first primary split draw roller, and a second servo motor is coupled to the second web contacting section of the first primary split draw roller. The respective rotational speeds of the first and second servo motors are controlled by a controller.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 1997Date of Patent: November 10, 1998Assignee: Ro-An Industries CorporationInventors: Peter Terranova, John Simonetti

Patent number: 5470300Abstract: A system and method in the manufacture of plastic bags for accurately registering a web having graphic material printed repetitively thereon with respect to a transverse cutting and sealing device comprise detecting the passage of an eyemark printed on the web by a certain location at an initial part of a web index, calculating the initial length travelled by the web from the start of the web index to the detection of the eyemark, and then adjusting a predetermined draw length of the web based upon that calculated initial length.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 1992Date of Patent: November 28, 1995Assignee: Ro-An Industries CorporationInventor: Peter Terranova

Patent number: 5338281Abstract: This invention relates to a method and device for manufacturing plastic bags by transversely cutting and sealing a plastic web at spaced locations and, more particularly, to a method and device for operating a stacking device by means of a servo-motor. The servo-motor is coupled to a conveyor on which a plurality of pin stack elements are arranged. The servo-motor is also connected to a servo-controller which directs the operation of the servo-motor and coordinates the movement of the conveyor with the movement of a pair of draw rolls which draw the web through a cutting and sealing bar which forms individual bags. The bags are carried from the area of their formation by means of a wicketer to the pin stack elements on the conveyor. The servo-controller directs the draw rolls to cease drawing the web to prevent waste of bag production so that an arm of the wicketer, which will pass over the conveyor when the conveyor is being moved, does not carry a bag.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 1993Date of Patent: August 16, 1994Assignee: Ro-An Industries CorporationInventor: Peter Terranova
