  • Publication number: 20250102744
Abstract: Technologies for fiber array unit (FAU) lid designs are disclosed. In one embodiment, channels in the lid allow for suction to be applied to fibers that the lid covers, pulling the fibers into place in a V-groove. The suction can hold the fibers in place as the fiber array unit is mated with a photonic integrated circuit (PIC) die. Additionally or alternatively, channels can be on pitch, allowing for pulling the FAU towards a PIC die as well as sensing the position and alignment of the FAU to the PIC die. In another embodiment, a warpage amount of a PIC die is characterized, and a FAU lid with a similar warpage is fabricated, allowing for the FAU to position fibers correctly relative to waveguides in the PIC die. In another embodiment, a FAU has an extended lid, which can provide fiber protection as well as position and parallelism tolerance control.

  • Patent number: 7676448
Abstract: A method for controlling the update installation behavior of a computing device according to installation attributes is presented. When present, a mandatory installation attribute associated with a software update causes the installation process executed on the computing device to disallow a user to selectively not install the software update. A priority installation attribute causes the computing device to request a higher amount of network bandwidth for obtaining the software update's content for installation on the client computing device. A deadline installation attribute associated with the software update causes the computing device to permit a user to selectively not install the software update until an associated deadline passes, at which time the software update is installed without further user interaction.

  • Publication number: 20090193409
Abstract: An update system may receive and apply updates to a client device on a per user basis, where an update may be applied to one user but not another. The user specific updates may make changes to user specific areas of the client device, such as user registries or areas of a file system that may be specific to a the user receiving an update. A download agent may communicate with an update distribution server to receive a description of available updates and may download those updates applicable to individual users. An installing agent may process the updates for each user individually when the user is logged on, and in some cases, when the user is not logged on.

  • Patent number: 7509636
Abstract: A system and method for updating one or more files on a computing device are provided. A client computing device obtains update information including an index identifying particular delta patches with specific versions of installed files. Upon selecting which of the applicable updates will be implemented, an update agent on the client computing device performs an inventory to identify which version a file to be updated is installed on the machine. The update agent selects a corresponding delta patch and transmits the request to an update service.

  • Patent number: 7441041
Abstract: A system and method by which content, such as a software update, is downloaded in a controlled manner to clients so as to reduce peak demands, by modulating the number of clients that can request (e.g., automatically) to download content. To this end, before any download is requested, each client receives information that the client uses to determine whether to request the content now, or back off and retry the download process later. In one implementation, the information is provided via a download regulation file, comprising acceptance percentage and time window parameters that are occasionally varied based on current network load-related statistics. Clients generate a random number that is evaluated against the acceptance percentage (probability threshold) to determine whether to download or back off. The time window specifies how long downloading clients are allowed to download, or how long backed-off clients need to wait before restarting the regulated download process.
