  • Patent number: 7564506
Abstract: This invention relates to a display device comprising at least a first substrate (4), forming part of a display area (2), and at least one electrically controlled input device (3). According to the invention a first conductor pattern (8) for driving said display area (2) and a second conductor pattern (9) for tansmitting signals from said electrically controlled input 5 device (3) are arranged on said first substrate. The invention also relates to a method for manufacturing such a display device.

  • Patent number: 7564436
Abstract: A gray level compensation mechanism is proposed for flexible displays. Flexible displays exhibit cell gap variations upon bending. The cell gap is measured during operation of the display (capacitive, piezoelectric). The pixel voltage is adjusted according to the measured cell gap. This results in a gray level that is independent of the local bending radius.

Inventors: Hjalmar Edzer Ayco Huitema, Peter Albert Cirkel
  • Patent number: 7453452
Abstract: A system comprises a display (1) with a substrate (16) and a carrier (2). The display (1) comprises pixels (11) and display conductors (12) which supply display signals (DS) to the pixels (11). The carrier (2) comprises carrier conductors (20) for carrying input signals (IS). The display conductors (12) and the carrier conductors (20) are positioned with respect to each other to obtain capacitors (C) between corresponding ones of the display conductors (12) and the carrier conductors (20) to capacitively transfer the input signals (IS) on the carrier conductors (20) to the display conductors (12).

  • Patent number: 7394506
Abstract: An apparatus comprising a first cell (10b), said first cell comprising a plurality of first elements (34b), said first elements being controllable between a non-reflective state, in which electromagnetic radiation having a first polarization is reflected to a first extent, and a reflective state, in which said electromagnetic radiation having a first polarization is reflected to a second extent, said second extent being greater than said first extent. Said apparatus further comprises a second cell (10a), superimposed on the first cell, said second cell comprising a plurality of second elements (34a), said second elements being controllable between a non-reflective state, in which electromagnetic radiation having a second polarization is reflected to a third extent, and a reflective state, in which said electromagnetic radiation having a second polarization is reflected to a fourth extent, said fourth extent being greater than said third extent.

  • Patent number: 6753933
Abstract: A bistable liquid crystal display device can be erased by the application of a mechanical pressure P at a section 20 of the display. The pressure induces a flow of the liquid crystal (5) material into an expansion chamber (22). The induced flow causes a transition from the non-reflecting to the reflecting state, thus eliminating the necessity of high voltage erasing voltages.

  • Publication number: 20030042563
Abstract: Similar patterns of spacer ribs (7, 8) are applied on the two substrates (3, 4) of a display. Small misalignments are corrected by the shape and positioning of the patterns when the two substrates are pressed together, for example, in a reel-to-reel process.
