  • Patent number: 6712673
Abstract: A wafer polishing apparatus for polishing a semiconductor wafer. The polisher comprises a base, a turntable, a polishing pad and a head drive mechanism for driven rotation of a polishing head. The polishing head comprises a sealing ring adapted to hold at least one wafer for engaging a front surface of the wafer with a work surface of the polishing pad. The sealing ring allows for application of uniform air pressure over the rear surface of the wafer. The sealing ring is constructed so that the wafer itself defines a portion of a pressure cavity receiving pressurized air.

  • Patent number: 6683977
Abstract: A method of taking three-dimensional measurements of an object surface by means of a camera movable between initial and terminal positions relative to the object surface in which object coordinates are determined by gray scale curves of images formed on sensors of the camera. Tracking of characteristics of an image taken at an initial position to an image taken at a terminal position is made safer and simpler by incremental tracking over one or more images taken at camera positions intermediate the initial and terminal positions.

  • Publication number: 20030064902
Abstract: A process for forming a semiconductor wafer which is single side polished improves nanotopography and flatness of the polished wafer. The process reduces the effect of back side surface features, such as edge ring phenomena and back side laser marks, on nanotopography and local site flatness, thereby improving oxide layer uniformity for chemical/mechanical planarization (CMP) processing, and flatness on the polished front side of the wafer after polishing. The wafer is mounted on a polishing block by wax so as to minimize transfer of imperfections in the wax to the front side of the wafer. In particular, the wafer is retained in a centered position on the polishing block. Moreover, the wafer is mounted at atmospheric pressure while still removing air bubbles from the wax.

  • Patent number: 6542250
Abstract: A method of optically measuring a three-dimensional surface by sequentially projecting predetermined patterns onto the surface to generate thereon a predetermined number of temporary images of different intensities. Each of the images is recorded by sensors of at least two matrix cameras and grey values are determined in a pixel by pixel manner of those images. A first approximation value is determined for calculating a first measuring point on the surface, and coordinates of this approximation value are associated on the sensor surfaces of both camera. The grey values of the images of each camera at the positions of the projected points are determined by subpixel interpolation, and a pair of grey scale gradation is detected therefrom. These steps may be repeated until a measuring point is determined by a pair of grey scale gradations analyzed to be similar.

  • Patent number: 6533109
Abstract: An elongated bridge-like member which normally assumes an operative position in which it prevents access to a track for the advancement of finished or partly finished cigarette packs between two successive stations in a packing machine is designed to have its length reduced prior to being movable—without colliding with parts at the stations—from the operative position to an inoperative position in which the track and the cigarette packs in the track are accessible. To this end, the bridge-like member has two carriages each of which includes one of the two end portions of the fully extended bridge-like member; each carriage is movable toward the end portion forming part of the other carriage. A locking device must be disengaged in order to permit movement of the bridge-like member from the operative to the inoperative postion.

  • Publication number: 20020072874
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of detecting flaws in the surface of a test object relative to the surface of a flawless master part by constructing in an artificial neuronal net a virtual master part for comparison with characteristic numbers derived from the grey values of sequential images of the test object recorded by a digital camera.

  • Publication number: 20020056257
Abstract: Successive coupons of a series of coupons obtained as a result of repeatedly severing a web of coherent coupons are conveyed to an assembling station where the coupons are assembled with collars of the type employed in hinged lid cigarette packs. The thus assembled collars and coupons are thereupon confined between the inner and outer envelopes of successive hinged lid cigarette packs.

  • Publication number: 20020056258
Abstract: Succesive lowermost coupons of a stack in a magazine are withdrawn by suction heads borne by a turnable suction wheel and a pivotable arm to be advanced along one or more arcuate first guides into a second guide which directs the coupons to predetermined positions beneath discrete U-shaped collars of the type forming part of so-called hinged lid packs for confinement of plain or filter cigarettes or other smokers' products. A coupon which has assumed such predetermined position is thereupon expelled from the second guide and is confined, together with the collar and the pack, in an outer envelope of cardboard or the like. An advantage of the method and apparatus is that the collar need not be lifted during advancement of a coupon to its predetermined position to thus reduce the likelihood of misalignment of the collar and the coupon relative to each other preparatory to and during their confinement in the outer envelope of the ultimate product.

  • Patent number: 5819501
Abstract: A machine wherein block-shaped arrays of cigarettes are confined in envelopes having closed ends and open ends located at the adjacent end faces of the confined arrays. Each open end includes two confronting elongated flaps alternating with narrow tucks which are to be folded against the adjacent end face of the confined array ahead of the flaps. Successive envelopes are delivered onto a platform constituting the bottom wall of a receptacle and being movable from a lower level, in which the receptacle receives an envelope, to an upper level in which it delivers the finished envelope into a pocket at the underside of an indelible turntable. The tucks of an envelope on the platform are folded over the adjacent end face of the confined array by two folding elements which are movable in a horizontal plane.

  • Patent number: 5411391
Abstract: The device serves to apply a prestress to blow moulding elements mounted in the region of mould carriers. The blow moulding elements am adjacent to each other in the area of a mould seam and in each case regionally enclose an internal space, which is intended for shaping a container manufactured with a blow process. In an elastomer a positioning element is embedded at least regionally and is enclosed at a distance by a peripheral element. At least part of the elastomer is arranged between the peripheral element and the positioning element in order to form an elastic connection.

  • Patent number: 5346386
Abstract: This device is used for the blow moulding of thermoplastic synthetic material, with it having a blow mould consisting of at least two blow-moulding elements. The blow mould is provided with an internal space designed for shaping a produced container. The blow moulding elements are arranged in the region of pivotally seated mould carriers. The mould carriers are guided on a shaft and a locking device is provided in the area of the end of the mould carrier facing away from the shaft. In the region of their extension facing away from the locking device, the mould carriers project beyond the shaft by means of their actuating arms. The actuating arms are rotationally coupled to an adjusting element via coupling levers. The adjusting element is guided essentially in the direction of a center line of the blow mould.

  • Patent number: 4847032
Abstract: A process for producing hollow bodies from oriented thermoplastic material wherein a cylindrical portion of a heated hollow preform which has a bottom thereon is subjected to stretching at a starting temperature which is below the vitreous transition temperature of the thermoplastic material, with the wall thickness of the preform being reduced in the stretching operation. Prior to the stretching operation the preform is heated in the portion in which the stretching effect begins, to a temperature higher than in the portion adjoining same. Stretching is preferably effected along the axis of the preform at different rates such that in the portion of the preform at which stretching begins, stretching is effected at a lower rate than in the portion adjoining same in the stretching direction.
