  • Patent number: 8494480
Abstract: A release mechanism is provided for devices for rescuing persons from avalanches or indicating the position of persons within avalanches, and for reducing the extent to which persons swept away by avalanches are buried, the release mechanism being able to be triggered by an intrinsic manual actuation. The release mechanism includes a radio unit equipped with a power supply, a transmitter, a receiver, an antenna, and data processing means, and can receive a radio signal for actuating the intrinsic release mechanism from the radio unit of at least one further release mechanism. The radio unit is either an integral component of the release mechanism or an additional, separate element which is however operatively connected or can be detachably connected thereto. The release mechanism is provided with an actuation means which is able to induce an extrinsic actuation of the intrinsic release mechanism upon receiving a radio signal.

  • Patent number: 8123581
Abstract: An avalanche rescue device includes as functional parts at least one inflatable buoyant body attachable close to the body of the user, a filling unit for the buoyant body, and a compressed gas unit having a compressed gas tank and a release unit. The device is provided with a carrier system for the user to carry the functional parts on his or her back. The carrier system includes at least one flexible fabric element and is provided with a first connecting mechanism which interacts with a second connecting mechanism of a separate container such that the carrier system can be detachably connected to the container to form a jointly-manipulable backpack and which is thereby sandwiched between the user's back and the container in the conjoined state. This avalanche rescue device is universally applicable compared to the previously-known avalanche rescue devices.

The release mechanism (3, 3?) includes a radio unit (17, 17?) equipped with a power supply (24), a transmitter, a receiver, an antenna (35), and data processing means, and can receive a radio signal for actuating the intrinsic release mechanism (3, 3?) from the radio unit of at least one further release mechanism. The radio unit (17) is either an integral component of the release mechanism (3, 3?, 3?) or an additional, separate element which is however operatively connected or can be detachably connected thereto. • Publication number: 20100112880
Abstract: The invention relates to an avalanche rescue device comprising as functional parts at least one inflatable buoyant body (22) attachable close to the body of the user, a filling unit for said buoyant body (22), a compressed gas unit having a compressed gas tank (10) and a release unit, and said device is provided with a carrier system (2) for the user to carry said functional parts on his or her back. This avalanche rescue device is characterized in that the carrier system (2) is comprised of at least one flexible fabric element (4, 7) and provided with a first connecting mechanism (28, 29) which interacts with a second connecting mechanism (34, 35) of a separate container (3) such that the carrier system (2) can be detachably connected to the container (3) to form a jointly-manipulable backpack and which is thereby sandwiched between the user's back and the container (3) in the conjoined state. This avalanche rescue device is universally applicable compared to the previously-known avalanche rescue devices.

  • Patent number: 6220909
Abstract: An avalanche life saving system has at least one inflatable buoyancy body of balloon design secured close to a user's body, a filling unit, a compressed gas unit with a compressed gas container and a release mechanism capable of actuation without a tool and attached to said compressed gas unit via a quick coupling and a release tubing. Compressed gas is transmitted to the buoyancy body via the filling unit upon actuation of the release mechanism. Actuation of the release mechanism produces a controlled pressure wave, which starts the flow of compressed gas from the compressed gas container to the filling unit.

  • Patent number: 6158380
Abstract: Lifesaving device for people in avalanches with two balloons at least one balloon is a tear-resistant balloon, which can be securable close to a user's body by means of an attachment. In an emergency the device is inflated by mean of pressurized gas so that it, just like a buoyancy body, keeps its user at the surface of the avalanche. A filling device connects at least one of the balloons to at least one pressurized gas container. The filling device includes a device to open the container and is connected to a filling hole of the balloon, in which case the pressurized gas container with filling device is secured, independent of the balloon, to the body of the user. Each balloon includes at least one pressurized gas container. The filling device for a complete, full filling of the balloons by means of the pressurized gas drawn from the pressurized gas bottles is connected via a pressure line to the filling hole of the balloon. All opening devices can be actuated via a common release mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4635754
Abstract: Rescue apparatus and method. The apparatus includes a tear-resistant balloon bound to a frame that is securable to a person. To initiate rescue action, the ballon is inflated by pressurized gas to buoy the attached person at, for example, the surface of the avalanche. The apparatus is formed by a frame with a collar to which the balloon is attached. A filling mechanism for the balloon is positioned within the frame and includes a nozzle valve that operates in accordance with Venturi action.
