  • Patent number: 6250683
Abstract: The invention relates to a belt buckle tensioner comprising a belt buckle unit provided with a belt buckle and a traction transfer device and further comprising a tensioner drive. The traction transfer device connects the belt buckle with the tensioner drive and displaces the belt buckle in a tensioning direction on activation of the tensioner drive. There is further provided at least one positive connection between the belt buckle unit and the tensioner drive, which in the non-activated state of the tensioner drive largely prevents at least one of a rotation and an axial displacement of the belt buckle unit with respect to the tensioner drive.

The belt engaging device is in force-transferring relationship with the fastened belt. The tensioner further comprises a traction transfer device extending through the working space, which traction transfer device connects the belt engaging device with the piston part, and a sheathing for the traction transfer device which at least partially covers the traction transfer device within the working space. The sheathing is of a material having a temperature stability with respect to the hot compressed gas.

  • Patent number: 5765266
Abstract: A safety belt buckle for insertion of a male lug designed to resist the action of a belt pretensioner, comprises a load bearing frame with a catch bolt slidingly mounted thereon and adapted to be moved between an unlocked and a locking position in which it engages the inserted male lug, a release button adapted to be operated to slide the catch bolt into its unlocked position for release of the male lug, a multiple-arm locking lever for preventing unintentional displacement of the release button, a pivot axis for the locking lever, and an inertial mass body movably mounted on the locking lever. The locking lever has a first and a second arm and being mounted on the frame for pivoting about the pivot axis. The first arm of the locking lever is pivotally coupled to the release button. Abrupt changes in velocity of the buckle in two opposite directions, appear during the belt pretensioning.

  • Patent number: 5481940
Abstract: A piston and cylinder unit for use in a vehicle safety belt pretensioner is provided with a tubular cylinder and a piston slidably accomodated in the cylinder tube. The piston has a circumferential groove between a pair of axially spaced radial shoulders. A cable is connected to the piston. A pair of semi-annular disks are located in said the circumferential groove of the piston with circumferential ends bearing on each other. The semi-annular disks are held in positions with opposite oblique slope in relation to the central axis of the cylinder tube. An outer edge portion of each semi-annular disk is held in engagement with the inner wall surface of the cylinder tube. When the piston tends to move through the cylinder tube in a direction opposite to an operating stroke, the semi-annular disks are erected and jammed in the cylinder tube to block further movement of the piston.

  • Patent number: 5309611
Abstract: A buckle for vehicle safety belt systems provided with a pretensioner engaging the buckle, is prevented by a locking pawl (42) from unintentional opening at the beginning and at the end of a pretensioning stroke. By the effect of its mass inertia at the start of the pretensioning stroke an inertial body moves the locking pawl (42) into a locking position in which the release button (30) is prevented from moving in a direction relative to the base in the pretensioning direction (R). Due to the location of its center of gravity relative to its mounting position the locking pawl (42) at the end of the pretensioning stroke remains in the locking position and is decoupled from the inertial body (56).
