Abstract: The flow straightener is used in piping for papermaking machines and employs ribs which are angled at the front edge to a plane perpendicular to the flow path to avoid fiber accumulations thereon. The ribs can be disposed in tube bends or elbows and can be used in circular or rectangular pipes.

Abstract: A method of, and apparatus for, adjusting the contact pressure of a rolling mill for rolling a web of material, the rolling mill comprising at least one controlled deflection roll equipped with a plurality of hydrostatic pressure elements operable by means of a hydraulic pressure medium. After the web of material has passed through the rolling mill the action of such rolling mill upon the web of material is measured at a number of points or locations across the web and the pressure of the pressure medium supplied to the individual pressure elements associated with the measuring points or locations is adjusted as a function of the measured values such that there is obtained a desired reference value for the action of the rolling mill at the measuring points or locations.

Abstract: The pressure at the breast box which is dependent on the dehydration capacity of the stock is measured and a measurement signal obtained which is used to regulate the paper machine. The pressure can be measured from the stock in the breast box, or where the pressure on the underside of the fleece on the suction roll is dependent on the pressure in the box, the pressure on the underside of the fleece can be used to obtain the measurement signal. Various components of the machine can be regulated by the obtained signal to produce a uniform paper.

Abstract: The vacuum pressure in the suction box which extends across the sheet-forming zone and terminates at the end of the zone is controlled in dependence on the pressure of the stock in the inlet duct opposite the suction box in order to maintain a constant column of stock liquid in the inlet duct at the end of the inlet duct. Various combinations of vacuum controlled suction boxes can be used.
