  • Patent number: 6725028
Abstract: An optimum combiner that reduces the amount of interference imposed upon a first base station by transmissions of other base stations within the same communication system. Two antennas are used to receive transmissions within a receiving station. A rake receiver is coupled to each antenna. By optimally combining the signals that are received by each independent finger of the rake receiver, interference that is correlated between a finger associated with the first antenna and a finger associated with the second antenna can be minimized with respect to the desired signal. Optimum combining requires determination of optimum combining coefficients.

  • Patent number: 6693920
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for waveform quality measurement are disclosed. An actual signal, representing a waveform channelized both in time and in code is generated by, e.g., an exemplary HDR communication system. Test equipment generates an ideal waveform corresponding to the actual waveform. The test equipment then generates an estimate of offsets between parameters of the actual waveform and the ideal waveform, and the offsets are used to compensate the actual waveform. The test equipment then evaluates various waveform quality measurements utilizing the compensated actual waveform and the corresponding ideal waveform. Definitions of the various waveform quality measurements as well as conceptual and practical examples of processing of the actual waveform and the corresponding ideal waveform by the test equipment are disclosed. The disclosed method and apparatus may be extended to any waveform channelized both in time and in code regardless of the equipment that generated the waveform.

  • Publication number: 20030223818
Abstract: A method of shore protection is provided which includes determining a required direction of travel of incoming waves to a shore or shore portion to protect the shore and locating at least one elongate reef (1) on the sea bed (2). The reef (1) is oriented at a pre-selected angle relative to an average or mode direction of travel of incoming waves (W) and having pre-selected dimensions selected to modify the direction of travel of incoming waves to the required direction after passing over the reef (1).

  • Publication number: 20030106146
Abstract: A wave pool 1 is provided suitable for modifying the characteristics of waves propagating therethrough, the wave pool 1 including at least one waterway 2 having opposing first and second ends 3, 4; opposing first and second side walls 5, 6 extending along at least a portion of the waterway 2; and a waterway floor extending between the side walls 5, 6; wherein the side walls mutually converge towards the second end of the waterway. Also provided is a wave pool 1, wherein the waterway floor includes a first floor surface 14 oriented so as to have a predetermined slope, wherein in use, the nominal depth of water contained within the waterway of the wave pool is greater towards the second side wall. The wave pool 1 may also include a second floor surface 13 adjacent to and mutually exclusive to the first floor surface 14 and located towards the first end 3 of the waterway.

  • Publication number: 20030066028
Abstract: An apparatus may be configured to generate document data representing a document for use in providing a service comprising a number of different activities that are to be carried out in providing the service. The apparatus may enable a user to retrieve previously stored document portions in accordance with the activity to which the document portion relates so that it is not necessary for the user to identify a specific document portion, a specific filename or an inventory part number allocated to that document portion. In one embodiment, an apparatus may be configured to generate a document that enables a user to assemble a document in accordance with the activities to which the document relates rather than to the actual content of the document. Thus, the user wishing to assemble a document may be concerned with the activities instead of which precise document portions to include in the document.
