  • Publication number: 20040094336
Abstract: A method and a device for weighing the contents of a metallurgical vessel (2), especially the contents of a tundish (3) in a steel continuous casting plant, whereby the vessel is supported on hydraulically actuatable weighing elements serving to increase the measurement precision before and during the metallurgical process and resides in that the filling weight is calculated by computer from hydraulic pressures in cylinder chamber (8a; 9a; 10a; 11a) which are measured deducting the empty weight of the vessel (2) and the friction forces in the cylinder chambers (8a; 9a; 10a; 11a).

  • Patent number: 5893043
Abstract: A process and an arrangement for determining the position of a vehicle moving on a given track by using a map matching process is provided. At least three types of position measuring data in the form of object site data, path length data and route course data are obtained. By use of a computer unit, for each type of measuring data, a data correlation is carried out with a respective pertaining stored desired data quantity for the determination of respective position results which then are evaluated, in an m-out-of-n decision making process. In this process, a given number m of the n determined position results is taken into account. With comparatively low expenditures, this permits a reliable and error-tolerant vehicle position determination for use, for example, for railway vehicles.

  • Patent number: 4719960
Abstract: Means are provided for connecting the proximal end of a dummy strip to the distal (i.e. leading) end of a strip casting, in which a throw-away element serving both as a connector and a heat sink for chilling the metal adjacent to the connector is removably mounted on the proximal end of the dummy strip, with a slightly resilient sealing element holding both the dummy strip and the connector-heat sink element centrally of the mold cavity, and with the connector-heat sink spaced from the walls of the mold by a narrow gap and also having means for both chilling and positively interlocking with the metal of the distal end of the cast strip when it congeals.
