  • Patent number: 9913691
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to model-based surgical planning. One aspect of the present disclosure relates to a surgical planning tool that can be implemented on a computer to be used for model-based surgical planning. The surgical tool can determine a coordinate system related to gravity from a plurality of standing images of a joint of a patient. The coordinate system can be used to plan a patient-specific arthroplasty procedure. As such, the surgical planning can include orienting a model of an implant for the joint at an optimal location in the coordinate system based on a weighting between an edge loading value and an impingement value.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 12, 2016
Date of Patent: March 13, 2018
    Assignee: The Cleveland Clinic Foundation

  • Publication number: 20150344839
Abstract: A fermented liquid feed composition for a target animal is provided, the feed composition being prepared by the fermentation of a feed substrate with a lactic acid producing bacteria, the lactic acid bacteria being characterised by being viable under the conditions prevailing in the gastrointestinal tract of the target animal, being an aggregating bacteria and/or co-aggregating with one or more pathogens, and being able to produce upon fermentation in the feed substrate lactic acid in an amount of at least a minimum inhibitory concentration of lactic acid. A method of producing a fermented liquid feed composition is also provided. Preferred lactic acid producing bacteria for use in the composition and method are Lactobacillus.

  • Publication number: 20110304531
Abstract: A system and a method of using the system includes a motion detection subsystem for detecting a motions applied to a computing device about one or more axes. A storage subsystem stores motion command definitions. A motion processing subsystem is included for characterizing the motions, retrieving command definitions, comparing the characterized motions with the retrieved command definitions, and retrieving commands associated with matched command definitions. A command processing subsystem is included for defining new motions and storing new characterized motions as entries in the command definition, retrieving stored characterized motions and storing named characterized motions as entries in the command definitions, associating commands with stored characterized motions and storing the associated commands as entries in the command definitions, and processing retrieved commands for modification of and interaction with displayed information of the computing device and saving processing results.

  • Publication number: 20110270780
Abstract: One or more aspects comprise a computer system comprising one or more servers that: (a) provide a financial personality assessment questionnaire to a user; and (b) receive data describing said user's responses to one or more questions in said questionnaire; and one or more processors in communication with said one or more servers that: (a) based on said data describing said user's responses, assess said user's investment-related attitudes across a plurality of scales and produce a multi-dimensional financial personality identifier for said user; and (b) construct a user risk profile for said user derived from said multi-dimensional financial personality identifier.

  • Publication number: 20100303726
Abstract: The invention provides a grafted antibody, or functional fragment thereof, comprising one or more complementarity determining regions (CDRs) having at least one amino acid substitution in one or more CDRs of a heavy chain CDR, where the grafted antibody or functional fragment thereof has specific binding activity for a cryptic collagen epitope. The invention also provides methods of using an antibody having specific binding activity for a cryptic collagen epitope, including methods of inhibiting angiogenesis, tumor growth, and metastasis.

  • Publication number: 20100240539
Abstract: The present invention discloses the identification of a human autism susceptibility gene, which can be used for the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of autism and related disorders, as well as for the screening of therapeutically active drugs. The invention more specifically discloses that the PRKCB 1 gene on chromosome 16 and certain alleles thereof are related to susceptibility to autism and represent novel targets for therapeutic intervention. The present invention relates to particular mutations in the PRKCBI gene and expression products, as well as to diagnostic tools and kits based on these mutations.

  • Publication number: 20080277954
Abstract: A device for carrying skis and poles includes a main strap and two auxiliary straps which are joined, respectively, to opposite ends of the main strap and which extend at right angles therefrom. The auxiliary straps are arranged for wrapping around the skis for fastening them together. Each auxiliary strap has at least one portion which is joined to the main strap along an inclined line, so that, when not in use, it may be folded to lie flat against the main strap and extend lengthwise thereof, to form an elongate, substantially flat assembly, which is compact and easy to slip into a pocket for storage.
