  • Publication number: 20080034926
Abstract: A wrench has a handle integral with a ratchet head that defines a chamber having a generally circular sidewall. An annular rotor has radial teeth about an outer surface thereof and is located in the chamber. The rotor teeth engage a single set of teeth extending radially inward from the chamber sidewall. Preferably, the sidewall teeth will be configured to have substantially equal height. Additionally, the two sides of each sidewall tooth that engage the rotor teeth will be configured to be substantially parallel.

  • Publication number: 20070289426
Abstract: A fastener removal tool comprising a generally cylindrical body having a central longitudinal axis, a first and second end perpendicular to the central longitudinal axis and a central bore between the first and second ends. The central bore defines a cylindrical inner wall that defines a plurality of equally spaced-apart axial ribs positioned proximate the body first end. Each rib extends radially inward from the central bore inner wall and has a first wall, a second wall, and a third wall that intersects the rib first and second walls. The rib first and second walls converge towards each other in a radial direction and the rib first and second walls converge towards each other in an axial direction. The rib first wall and the rib third wall intersect to form a first bite edge, and the rib second wall and the rib third wall intersect to form a second bite edge.

  • Patent number: 7284464
Abstract: An oil drain plug wrench is provided to enable a user to more easily remove and install an oil drain plug. The wrench includes a rotor with two cavities on opposite sides of a rotor. When either of the cavities engages a workpiece, the wrench is capable of applying torque to the workpiece in a first rotational direction and ratcheting in a second rotational direction. A flange is provided on the outer diameter of the rotor to allow a user to remove or install an oil drain plug by hand.

  • Patent number: 7146884
Abstract: An open end wrench for use with a fastener having a polygonal gripping portion has an elongated body, a first jaw having a first bite surface and a second jaw having a second bite surface. The jaws form a throat therebetween having a closed end and an open end. The bite surfaces are disposed with engaging surfaces so that majority components of force vectors applied normal to the first and second bite surfaces are directed parallel to the wrench handle axis.

  • Patent number: 7051623
Abstract: The present invention provides a wrench having a handle integral with a ratchet head. The ratchet head defines a chamber having a generally circular sidewall. An annular rotor having radial teeth about an outer surface thereof is located in the chamber. The rotor teeth engage a set of teeth extending radially inward from the sidewall of the chamber. A biasing element, such as a leaf spring, is provided to urge the rotor teeth into engagement with the sidewall teeth. Preferably, the sidewall teeth will be configured having progressively increasing heights in the direction in which the rotor turns during ratcheting.

  • Patent number: 5288183
Abstract: A self-centering twist drill bit 20 is formed with a "fishtail" cutting section 32 having major cutting lips 72 and 74 on a working end 26 thereof at a point angle of 190.degree.. Tip relief surfaces 76 and 78 trail cutting lips 72 and 74. A pilot tip 38 on the working end 26 extends axially from the "fishtail" cutting section 32 and is formed with a split point having leading cutting edges 40 and 42 and minor cutting lips 46 and 48. Outer surfaces 58 and 60 of pilot tip 38 are each formed with a radial relief and a back taper and joins with cutting section 32 along fillets 92 and 100 which are also radially relieved.

  • Patent number: 5056386
Abstract: The improved screwdriver bit and finder system of the present invention substantially aligns the axis of a screwdriver bit with the axis of a slotted-head fastener and maintains the alignment while the fastener is being driven. The inside diameter of a cylindrical finder and the diameter of a cylindrical driver portion and blade formed on an end of the bit are substantially matched in four different systems, with four discrete ranges of fastener head diameters. These matched systems of the present invention minimize the problems generated by conventional "one size fits all" bit and finders, namely, bit "wobble" in the finder and misalignment of the bit axis with the fastener axis, resulting in damaged bits and fasteners. In contrast, the axial alignment produced by the bit and finder system of the present invention minimizes the amount of driving force required and saves bits and fasteners from damage.

  • Patent number: 4998454
Abstract: A modified Phillips-type screwdriver bit is disclosed that is fully compatible with a standard Phillips-head fastener, and is designed to significantly increase the level of torque that can be applied to the fastener while at the same time substantially reducing the cam-out forces normally produced by a standard Phillips screwdriver bit. These results are accomplished by forming generated surfaces along the side walls of the bit wings so that when the bit is initially inserted into a standard Phillips-head fastener, lines of contact occur between the bit and recess adjacent and parallel to the roots of the bit wings. In this manner, the application of torque is confined to the sides of the bit wings even as applied torque levels increase.

  • Patent number: 4690024
Abstract: A circular saw blade (20) includes a circular body (22) with a plurality of equally spaced teeth (32) and a corresponding plurality of gullets (34) formed integrally with and about the periphery of the body. Each alternate tooth (32) of a first set of alternating teeth has mounted thereon a carbide tip (36) with a cutting point (60) on the right side of the blade (20). Each of the remaining teeth (32) form a second set of alternating teeth and has mounted thereon a carbide tip (38) with a cutting point 72 on the left side of the blade (20). Each of the carbide tips (36) and (38) is formed with a converse front face (42), top bevel angle, side clearance angles and a front bevel angle.

  • Patent number: 4489902
Abstract: A cord caddy for carrying or storing a dispensable length of cord wherein the cord caddy includes a multi-layered reel disposed within an open-faced pan shaped housing. The cord or other flexible member will be coiled about the reel in upper and lower chambers thereof so as to be unwound (dispensed) therefrom whenever it is desired to use the extension cord. The reel will be free to oscillate within the housing during the dispensing of the cord therefrom. A cord stake will fix one free end of the cord while the opposite end is pulled so that during oscillation of the reel within the housing the housing will partake of the sliding translatory motion along the ground a distance that amounts to one-half of the total length of the cord exiting from the housing. The cord is free to rotate within the housing during the dispensing of the cord therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4433589
Abstract: A power tool, is adapted to be driven by an external drive means such as a portable, hand held drill, through a novel gear reduction arrangement in which a selected pinion gear and an idler gear are supported between a gear case cover and the tool frame. The gear reduction arrangement provides for a gear case cover having a support position for a pinion and a plurality of support positions for the idler gear. The idler gear support positions are placed at varying distances from the pinion gear position to accommodate pinion gears of various sizes and numbers of teeth, thereby to permit the tool to be operated at a plurality of gear reduction ratios.

  • Patent number: 4386545
Abstract: An elongated stamped sheet-metal slider member facilitates the alinement and support for the guiding pulley of a band saw. The slider member has several integrally-formed portions. A first portion depends within the housing, and the pulley is rotatably supported thereon about an axis substantially perpendicular thereto. A second portion of the slider member is bent away, forming an obtuse angle with the first portion, and extends through a slotted opening formed in the housing. This second portion has a pair of ears projecting laterally of the slotted opening for preventing the slider from passing completely into the housing. The ears have respective side edge portions engaging the outer surface of the housing and forming therebetween a fulcrum for pivotal movement of the slider member and hence the pulley about an axis which is above the pulley axis and transverse thereto. A jack screw is carried by the housing for engaging the first portion of the slider member below the pulley axis.
