  • Patent number: 11820909
Abstract: A two part composition formulation is provided with a composition part A including a phenol novolac epoxy in combination with a bisphenol F epoxy, bisphenol A epoxy, or a combination thereof that define a base resin. A resorcinol diglycidyl ether present is present in part A in a ratio of 1.5-25:1 relative to the base resin. A part A inorganic particulate has x-y-z average linear dimension of between 500 and 6,000 microns. An activator part B includes a curative operative to cure the base resin and the resorcinol diglycidyl ether along with a part B inorganic particulate has x-y-z average linear dimension of between 500 and 6,000 microns. • Publication number: 20220259459
Abstract: A method of bonding includes providing a thermoplastic substrate having a surface with a surface energy value of less than a 48 miliJoules per meter squared. The surface is exposed to particulate formed in a combustion flame from a precursor. The particulate forms an adherent layer of metal oxide on the surface. An adhesive is applied to the adherent layer. A second substance is placed in in simultaneous contact with the adhesive to bond the thermoplastic. A laminate is provided that includes a thermoplastic substrate having a surface. An adherent layer of metal oxide is on a surface of the thermoplastic substrate. An adhesive is attached to the adherent layer. A second substance is in simultaneous contact with the adhesive.

  • Patent number: 10392532
Abstract: An adhesive composition is provided that includes a block copolymer present at greater than or equal to 30 total weight percent of the adhesive system comprising a high glass transition temperature in subunits Y and Y?, each of the subunits Y and Y? having a high glass transition temperature of from 70° C. to 130° C. with a low glass transition temperature subunit Z having a low glass transition temperature of from ?100° C. to 10° C. intermediate between said high glass transition temperature acrylate subunits to define a structure Y-Z-Y?. The triblock copolymer is dissolved in a monomer curable under free radical. A free radical initiator of a peroxide or a hydroperoxide are present in combination with a sulfonyl chloride, dihydropyridine and copper or vanadium salt. By heating the cured adhesive at or above 70° C., the adhesive is amenable to being removed, repaired, or reworked.

  • Patent number: 9771501
Abstract: A two-part adhesive formulation is provided that has an adhesive part A and an activator part B. The part A includes a monomer amount of a methacrylate ester monomer, a crosslinker amount of a polyfunctional monomer, an anti-oxidant, a free-radical polymerization inhibitor, and an adhesion promoter system to improve cured adhesive strength to a substrate, an impact modifier and a toughening agent and a free-radical polymerization initiator. The part B includes an impact modifier, butyl rubber, methacrylate ester monomer, and a free-radical polymerization accelerator yet varies in the weight ratio used relative to part A. Each of the part A and the part B have separate storage stability of at least 300 days at 23° C. A process of applying an adhesive to a substrate is provided that includes combining together parts A and B to form an adhesive mixture and applying the mixture to the substrate and allowed to cure.

  • Patent number: 9382452
Abstract: An adhesive two-part formulation is provided that includes an amount of free-radical curable monomers, each of said monomers containing at least one acrylate moiety. Also preset in the formulation is an amount of a chlorosulfonated polymer; a Lewis acid; a polyfunctional monomer amount of dimethacrylate monomer, trimethacrylate monomer, an elastomer, a thermoplastic additive, or a combination thereof. A borane-amine complex is provided as an activator. A process of applying the formulation to a substrate includes mixing together the formulation components such that each part has a storage stability at 50° C. for 30 days where the viscosity at 30 days is within 40% of an initial viscosity. The mixture is applied to the substrate and then allowed to cure to achieve an initial strength of at least 345 kiloPascals (kPa) within 30 minutes and 40 minutes for adhesive:activator weight ratio of 1:1 and 10:1, respectively.
