  • Patent number: 8221359
Abstract: A drug delivery device capable of working in at least two different modes which includes a dose injection mode and a set-up mode. The drug delivery device automatically changes from the dose injection mode to the set-up mode and vice versa in accordance with the detection of the cover by a cover detection switch. In the dose injection mode doses can be set and injected; in the set-up mode various parameters assisting the use of the drug delivery device can be set. This setting is preferably done by selecting the parameters from a menu, also in this mode historical data stored in the device can be viewed.

  • Publication number: 20090118592
Abstract: A medical system is provided comprising a sensor unit and a receiving unit is provided, the sensor unit being adapted to generate sensor data indicative of a time-dependent characteristic of a subject, and transmit data to a receiver at intervals determined by an analysis of time-dependent changes in the generated sensor data, the receiving unit being adapted to receive sensor data at a non-predetermined rate. By this arrangement sensor data can be transmitted only when considered necessary in accordance with a predetermined strategy, this reducing the energy consumption associated with the transmission of data. The strategy may set out that the transmission of sensor data is skipped in case there is no or only a small change in an actual sensor data value. On the other hand, in case of rapid changes in sensor data values, sensor data may be transmitted at higher rate.

  • Publication number: 20040122530
Abstract: The present invention relates to an indicating device adapted to be used in a system comprising a drug delivery system in combination with an indicating device for conveniently providing a user of a portable drug delivery device with information in respect of the delivery process. The delivery device is adapted for delivering a drug from a reservoir into a body of a user in accordance with a delivery rate value or profile, and comprises means for providing data information to the indicating device. The indicating device comprises means for receiving and storing data information from the infusion device, as well as timer means, where processor means is adapted for calculating an estimated time-dependent value based upon the received data and time information, and associated with indication means such as a display for indicating a calculated value, this allowing the indicating device to provide updated information independently of the delivery device.

  • Patent number: 6582404
Abstract: A limiting mechanism which prevents the setting of a dose, which exceeds the amount of liquid left in a cartridge of an injection device, is disclosed. The injection device is the type where a dose is set by rotating a dose setting member relative to a driver and away from a fixed stop in the injection device. The dose setting member interfaces the driver such that the dose setting member can be rotated in one direction without rotating the driver. The dose is injected by rotating back the dose setting member which during the backward rotation carries the driver with it. Rotating the driver causes the piston rod to move forward inside the cartridge and expel some of the liquid contained in the cartridge. The driver is provided with a track having a length which is related to the total amount of liquid in the cartridge and which track is engaged by a track follower coupled to the dose setting member to follow rotation of this dose setting member.

  • Patent number: 6524280
Abstract: Described is a dose setting limiter for medical injectors of the type having a housing accommodating an ampoule-containing medicine sufficient for a number of dosed injections, a rotary dose setting knob, which is rotational relative to the housing and by which doses may be set by rotating the dose setting knob and an injection button which, when activated, administers the set dose. The dose setting limiter includes a stationary first part connected to the housing, and a second part fitted over the rotary dose setting knob, the second part being able to rotate together with the dose setting knob when setting up a dose and the second part being rotational relative to the first part. A third part is placed between the first part and the second part, the third part having means cooperating with means on the second part for limiting the dose setting.

  • Publication number: 20020095120
Abstract: The invention relates to an automatic injection device, which automatically injects a pre-measured quantity of fluid medicine when a tension spring is released. The tension spring moves the ampoule and the injection needle from a storage position to a deployed position when it is released; the content of the ampoule is thereafter expelled by the tension spring forcing a piston forward inside the ampoule. After the fluid medicine has been injected, torsion stored in the tension spring is released and the injection needle is automatically retracted back to its original storage position.

  • Patent number: 6302869
Abstract: A flexible piston rod for use in cylinder ampoules comprises a tape shaped body (1) which is along its length provided with supporters (2; 6; 16) projecting from at least one side of the tape. The tape (1) has a width and the supporters a length so that sides of the tape and the free ends of the supporters abuts the inner wall of the ampoule (3) in at least three positions along the inner perimeter of the ampoule (3) and not all the abutment points lies on the same half of the circular cross section but are typically displaced about 120° from each other. The piston rod is moved by a gear engaging a rack (12) on the tape either on the side not carrying supporters or at the edge of the tape on the side carrying supporters.

  • Patent number: 6021824
Abstract: A kit for mixing comprises a housing accommodating an ampoule containing a solid and a container containing a solvent which is either pre-pressurized or which may be pressurized when it is desired to mix to the liquid and solid components. A needle unit comprises a first needle, the opposite ends of which pierce rubber membranes closing the ampoule and the container, to establish a transport channel through which pressurized solvent flows from the container to the ampoule. The ampoule is vented through a second needle inserted through the membrane of the ampoule and provided with a micro-filter. In one embodiment, the needle unit is displaceable to cause the ends of the needles to pierce the respective membranes, and locked in place by a spring biased locking mechanism. A branch passage from the needle is connected to a cylinder containing a piston coupled to the locking mechanism. When the ampoule is full, pressure in the branch passage will rise, actuating the piston and releasing the locking mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5947934
Abstract: The present invention relates to injection syringes comprising a housing accommodating an ampoule containing medicine sufficient for a number of dosed injections. The syringe has a dose setting mechanism by which doses may be set by rotating a dose setting element relative to the housing and the dose set is indicated on a scale. The scale is formed as a clock dial having a first part secured to the housing and a second part which is rotatable relative to the first part and which is coupled to the dose setting element, one of parts carries the scale and the other carries an indicating member indicating a point on the scale. The angular distance between the divisions of the scale corresponds to the minute divisions on an ordinary clock. Holes are provided along the scale which holes can receive a pin forming a stop which cannot be passed by the indicating member.
