  • Publication number: 20240225446
Abstract: An implantable device for detecting biomarkers in animals, the device comprises: a sensor comprising: a pair of electrodes spaced apart from each other, the pair of electrodes having a first capacitance; an oscillator configured to oscillate at a first frequency and output a first signal at the first frequency; wherein the sensor is configured to receive an amount of biological fluid wherein the biological fluid causes the capacitance of the pair of electrodes to change from the first capacitance to a second capacitance; wherein the oscillator is coupled to the pair of electrodes and arranged such that a change in the capacitance of the pair of electrodes causes a change in oscillation of the oscillator from the first frequency to a second frequency; and wherein the oscillator is configured to output a second signal at the second frequency, the second signal indicative of a biomarker in the biological fluid.

  • Publication number: 20110200570
Abstract: Compositions and methods for the treatment of intestinal infections. Compositions that include a liquid crystal mixture of an antimicrobial glycerol fatty acid ester and a polyhydric alcohol inhibit the growth of numerous deleterious intestinal pathogenic bacteria, including C. difficile. C. difficile is the causative agent in an increasing number of antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections. The formulations may be administered orally as capsules or soft gels, or alternatively as a enema, colonic, or rectal suppository. When combined with a probiotic supplement, the liquid crystal combinations reported here are able to treat an intestinal bacterial infection effectively and safely, thus promoting general intestinal health.

  • Patent number: 6926576
Abstract: This invention is a long thin rocket that launches forward and glides backward after an ejection pitch maneuver with no moving parts. It takes advantage of a shift in center of pressure caused by a change in the angle of incidence of the rocket. This change in angle of incidence is caused by the side thrust pitch maneuver. The pitch maneuver is initiated by the ejection charge out a side thrust port or other side thrusting apparatus at a location on the rocket causing a large torque about the center of gravity of the rocket. The center of gravity of the rocket after the pitch is optimally less than 60% of the way between the Barrowman center of pressure and the center of lateral area center of pressure.
