  • Patent number: 5822693
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling a base station of a first telecommunications system using control information generated in a second telecommunications system and transferred to the base station through a mobile station capable of operating in both the first and second systems. The control information is transmitted from the second system to the mobile station during operation of the mobile station in the second system. Upon operation of the mobile station in the first system the control information is then transferred to the first system. The control information is then used within the first system to control operation of a base station of the first system. The control information may include instructions defining parameters of operation for the base station. The instructions may include control data assigning radio channels or a frequency band to the base station and, instructions for setting output power levels for the base station.

  • Patent number: 5590411
Abstract: Apparatus and a method for inhibiting spurious responses in the receiver stage of a radio telephone are disclosed. A detector detects the transmission of an RF signal from the transceiver and sends a control signal indicative of such transmission to a linearity controller. The linearity controller is coupled to non-linear devices in the receiver stage of a transceiver and varies the linearity of the non-linear devices in accordance with the control signal. Preferably, the linearity is varied by increasing the bias current or voltage for the non-linear devices when the control signal indicates transmission of an RF signal.

  • Patent number: 5551069
Abstract: A radio apparatus, particularly a radio telephone has an antenna which, rather than extending away from the housing of the apparatus, is bent around the housing to overlap it in a clip-like formation. The antenna acts as a fixed antenna to receive and transmit radio signals but is less vulnerable to damage and breakage their conventional fixed antennas. The antenna also acts a clip enabling the apparatus to be clipped over a pocket or belt.
