  • Patent number: 11706712
Abstract: Controlling server power usage in a data center is provided. Power usage among a plurality of server racks in active mode processing a set of workloads in the data center is managed. It is detected that a new server rack in standby mode is being added to the plurality of server racks. It is ensured that the new server rack in the standby mode is properly controlled and monitored prior to transitioning the new server rack to the active mode. It is determined whether power safety criteria are met to safely join the new server rack to the plurality of server racks prior to transitioning the new server rack from the standby mode to the active mode. The new server rack is transitioned to the active mode in without exceeding a power budget for the plurality of server racks in response to determining that the power safety criteria are met.

  • Patent number: 10222335
Abstract: A label-free imaging method to monitor stem cell metabolism discriminates different states of stem cell as they differentiate in a living tissues. We use intrinsic fluorescence biomarkers and the phasor approach to Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging Microscopy (FLIM). We identify and map intrinsic fluorophores such as collagen, retinol, retinoic acid, flavins, nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) and porphyrin. We measure the phasor values of germ cells in C. Elegans germ line. Their metabolic fingerprint cluster according to their differentiation state, reflecting changes in FAD concentration and NADH binding during the differentiation pathway. The phasor approach to lifetime imaging provides a label-free, fit-free and sensitive method to identify different metabolic state of cells during differentiation, to sense small changes in the redox state of cells and may identify symmetric and asymmetric divisions and predict cell fate.

  • Patent number: 7525913
Abstract: The invention provides a system and method of controlling timing of release of traffic for a communication switch. The traffic originates from at least one source, is directed to a common ingress point of the switch and is directed to a common egress point in the switch. The egress point has a maximum egress transmission rate. The traffic has at least one datastream. Each datastream has a requested transmission rate. The method comprises, for each datastream, establishing a maximum cell release rate such that a sum of each of the maximum cell release rate does not exceed the maximum egress transmission rate and utilizing the maximum cell release rate to govern release of local traffic in the datastream from the ingress point.

  • Patent number: 7420983
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for the dynamic assignment of re-assembly queues to multiple connections in a communications system are described. In a preferred embodiment of the invention an ATM to MPLS mediation application is implemented. In the mediation process ATM cells are assigned to re-assembly queues where they are converted to MPLS packets for transmission over a MPLS tunnel. Typically there are many more connections than re-assembly queues which necessitates a dynamic assignment of the re-assembly queues to ensure efficient operation of the system. Re-assembly queues are serviced based on either a cell count or a timing factor.

  • Patent number: 7254112
Abstract: A method and apparatus for sending packets from traffic flows to queues in a network element is provided. Each traffic flow has a packet size parameter indicating a sizing constraint for its packets. The method includes the step of grouping the traffic flows into groups utilizing the packet size parameter of each traffic flow. The method further includes the step of sending packets only from traffic flows of one group to at least one designated queue. Traffic flows of the one group are identified utilizing the packet size parameter of each traffic flow.

  • Publication number: 20060242400
Abstract: A method and system for remotely booting a plurality of server blades in a BLADECENTER® and for updating each blade without the need for an administrator to access each blade via a separate user identification number and corresponding password. A temporary virtual local area network is created to provide an out-of-band communication channel between a management module and the plurality of server blades. The management module receives and saves the original boot sequence for each server blade and alters each boot sequence such that each server blade begins with a network boot. After receiving an initial transmission over the network containing server blade boot instructions and storing the boot instructions in a temporary boot server, subsequent server blade boot requests from the network are intercepted and the stored boot instructions are re-routed from the temporary boot server to each of the remaining blades in the blade server thus removing the need for repeated boot packet transmission over the network.
