    Abstract: Roll that includes a roll axle, a roll jacket, and a bearing ring positioned to rotatably support the roll jacket, and calender that includes the roll. The bearing ring is non-rotatable but is radially movable relative to the roll axle. A locking device is positionably adjustable to selectively block and unblock a radial lift movement, and the locking device includes a rotatable part having a longitudinal opening. The rotatable part is rotatable into a first rotational position in which the longitudinal opening is oriented substantially parallel to a direction of the radial lift movement, and is rotatable into a second rotational position in which the radial lift movement is blocked. The calender further includes a neighboring roll arranged to form a nip with the roll, and at least one further roll. The neighboring roll and the further rolls are mounted for displacement in the pressing direction, and a device arranged to selectively block and unblock the displacement of the neighboring roll.

    Abstract: An adjustable deflection roll including a roll sleeve or jacket supported by a plurality of support devices positioned partially within a support beam. Pressure chambers may be located between the support devices and the support beam and each pressure chamber may be coupled to a supply line. As the length of the roll increases, and as the need for increasingly more precise pressure distributions also increases, more support devices may be utilized. The adjustable deflection roll may also include a drain channel to facilitate quick relief of the pressure chambers when necessary. To accomplish this, each pressure chamber may be coupled to the drain channel furnished with the supply line such that the drain channel may be closed with a drain valve.

    Abstract: A calender includes a roll stack that has two end rolls and at least one intermediary roll, wherein the end rolls each have a deflection compensation device that acts in the direction of the intermediary roll. At least one end roll has an additional deflection compensation device that acts in the direction away from the intermediary roll. On the side of the at least one end roll which is remote from the intermediary roll is disposed a supplementary roll. This calender is able to carry out a matte satination operation without being fixed as to roll-specific pressures, which pressures must be of a precise magnitude so as to compensate for the deflection of the intermediary rolls.
