Patent number: 11973651Abstract: The system described herein provides a method for deploying, managing, scaling, configuring, upgrading, and modifying large complicated systems that are made-up of many different network resources. These network resources may be virtual machines or containers. The system constructs a hierarchical SNS by building up layers from the inside of an outer SNS. The system conducts health checks at each layer to ensure the system is properly functioning and the deployment is healthy. Lastly, third party vendors input logic in each layer to identify a desired state for the system. Once the desired state is identified, each layer can determine the necessary actions to upgrade from the current state to the desired state. This system simplifies, adds efficiency, and increases security when deploying, scaling, configuring, upgrading, or modifying the system.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 2023Date of Patent: April 30, 2024Assignee: MICROSOFT TECHNOLOGY LICENSING, LLCInventors: James Duncan Parsons, Peter Louis White, Sunniva Rose Carter

The gate assembly is pivotally attached to the second portable barrier, and the beam is capable of rotating between a closed position and an open position. The beam in the closed position is substantially parallel to a surface on which the first and second portable barriers are positioned. The beam in the open position is no longer parallel to the surface and has been raised vertically away from the surface. The gate assembly has at least one arrestor cable attached between the first portable barrier and the second portable barrier such that the arrestor cable spans a distance between the first and second portable barriers.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 8, 2023Publication date: March 14, 2024Inventor: Peter Duncan WHITFORD

Publication number: 20240086779Abstract: A distributed control system (DCS) of an industrial process plant includes a data center storing a plant information model that includes a description of physical components, the control framework, and the control network of the plant using a modeling language. A set of exposed APIs provides DCS applications access to the model, and to an optional generic framework of the data center which stores basic structures and functions from which the DCS may automatically generate other structures and functions to populate the model and to automatically create various applications and routines utilized during run-time operations of the DCS and plant. Upon initialization, the DCS may automatically sense the I/O types of its interface ports, detect communicatively connected physical components within the plant, and automatically populate the plant information model accordingly. The DCS may optionally automatically generate related control routines and/or I/O data delivery mechanisms, HMI routines, and the like.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 21, 2023Publication date: March 14, 2024Inventors: Mark J. Nixon, Claudio Fayad, Robert G. Halgren, III, Anthony Amaro, JR., Peter Hartmann, Trevor Duncan Schleiss, Seshatre Natarajan

Patent number: 9400667Abstract: A method, system and computer program product for optimizing memory usage associated with duplicate string objects in a Java virtual machine. The method comprises scanning a heap of the Java virtual machine at the end of the start-up process of the virtual machine to identify duplicate strings associated with the virtual machine, storing the identified strings in a string cache file, and determining whether a new string that needs to be created during start-up already exists in the string cache file. The duplicate strings are added to an interned strings table. A reference to a duplicate string is returned if a string to be created is already in the string cache file.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2013Date of Patent: July 26, 2016Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Curtis E.
