    Abstract: A tubular pen for recording apparatus and the like has a freely displaceable weight within a hollow body and there is a cap or protective element on the end of the body. The cap and the weight are connected together by a spring of metal or synthetic resin material such that there is relative movement between the cap and weight and the interconnected cap and weight together with the spring constitute a single assembly. The spring has its ends firmly attached to the cap and weight or may be integral with these two components.
